Do you know anything about your ancestors? Mine landed in 1760 in N. Carolina from Ireland. They were Scots-Irish. The name was originally Backer. They came to Missouri in the late 1800s.

I have a family tree back to the 1700's. Pretty sure they came from Ireland also. I have a hard time going back in my grandmothers [fathers mother]side as she was born in Oklahoma territory. I'm told an indian reservation it Bartlesville, Ok.
I haven't joined any ancestory group, just following names from one to the other. The family tree was done by a cousin who hooked me up with 5 half brothers and sisters I didn't know I had whom I have since met.

On a serious note, I have an aunt that has been deep into perusing our family genealogy since she was 17 or 18 years old.................. I can't even begin to imagine what her family "library " looks like. She brought a dozen or so of her books to a family reunion 15 or more years ago.................. it was information overload for me. I was never able to get interested in it.
If I had a lot........ and I do mean a LOT of time,
..............it would probably be interesting to sit down for a week and shuffle through a small portion of her stuff. It's mainly just my dad's side of the family.

My brother spent 30 years doing research. He could tell you every in-law and out law.

All i know is my parents came over on the boat from Italy .

I know i have other family here somewhere . Never met them .

The latest to come to America was my father's father, a Serb who came here through Elis Island in the '20s from Croatia. He married a 2nd generation Serb whose parents both were Serbs who fled Croatia. They were all relatively poor farmers in the Old Country and came here seeking work in the Industrial Revolution------that wasn't happening in Croatia, and it wasn't good to be a Serb in Croat territory.

Mom's dad's family came from England on the paternal side around 4/5 generations back and Germany on the maternal side even farther back than that--------roundabout the Revolutionary War period. We've traced the English ancestry back to the 1600's through census kept in those old towns. They were artisans and small business owners. Her mom's side was Irish. Not sure of that history beyond the description of my great-grandfather as a "very reliable laborer" in his obit. I'm fairly sure they or their parents fled poverty/famine in Ireland. My great-grandfather had abandoned them and Great-Grandma worked as a school cafeteria worker----The Lunch Lady. 7 of my 8 great-grandparents were alive when I was born and I have memories of all of them.
