Way to go!!! They told my grandfather his marriage wouldn't last 6 months...it lasted 60 years and they died within 3 weeks of each other.

Who's health is it a hazard to? My grandfather used to say that when a guy that age marries a gal her age it's like buying a book for all his friends to read.

It said that at some point that using tar paper indoors might be deemed to be a health hazard ala loose fiberglass, the fiberglass blankets tacked on the inside of a/c duct work, and the formaldehyde in MDF.

I don't understand you last question. I didn't do business with the installer....he was also the retailer....I didn't buy anything from him either....his flooring price kept changing.

What about the holes the flooring nailer makes? Also, I had read an article concerning using tar paper in an indoor situation. I know it's been used for a long time for this application and will probably continue to be used this way. The Aquabar has the tar paper between 2 sheets of kraft...

How do you keep it flat? I'm using Aquabar B. Also, the cleats used to nail the floor boards will put holes in it. Aquabar tech support said stapling is acceptable. They have done studies to calculate how much the staple and nail holes affect the Aquabar's performance and the affect is...

Continues to be hit or miss with HF. They're still in business so there must be more hits than misses. I also bought their pneumatic narrow crown stapler which has worked just fine. I got it to staple down the vapor retarder under my new hardwood flooring. Great for attaching carpet pads too...

I bought their flooring nailer which has worked fine....one downside to this tool is that HF does not have replacement parts for it, o rings, seals, etc. I also have the HF oscillating multi tool which I'm trying to kill so that I can upgrade to a Bosch. I bought their hammer drill which...

Options instead of wheels or casters

I did the carpeting attached to lengths of 2 X 4's to replace the metal swivel balls on a heavy sofa bed. I used a short nap carpet which I extended up the sides of the 2 X 4's and stapled. I also put some of those Safeglide tap in felt bottomed glides into chairs and other furniture that gets...

best way to add hardwood without lacing

Richard, Can you post some before and after pictures? Also, what type of flooring do you have? I'm just curious as to how the hardwood in the kitchen area has held up. I'm hardwooding my whole house but am hesitant to put hardwood in the kitchen.

best way to add hardwood without lacing

I had a similar situation. I assume your layout will be the same with all flooring running in the same direction. I installed flush headers in the doorways of the rooms at either side of the carpeted area. The headers are perpendicular to the flooring. I then installed the flooring in the...

    Hardwood Flooring Nailer Leaking Oil

My pneumatic hardwood flooring nailer has begun to leak oil. There is some oil residue under the strike cap, around the exhaust port, and spots on the subfloor in front of where I have driven a cleat. The nailer is working fine and has no other problems. I don't know what type of maintenance...

    Hardwood Against Marble Threshold

I will be laying 3/4" solid t&g flooring parallel to a bathroom doorway that has a marble threshold. The hardwood will be at about the same level as the marble. What should I do about an expansion space?

    Slip-Tongue Spline Question

I glued the spline into one groove as you folks have recommended. I used some cutoffs to keep the spline properly aligned while I nailed it. The next board fit to the glue/splined board perfectly. Thank You
