    Flooring shear

Does anyone use this. I've got a few 1/2" engineered floors to do coming up soon & thought I might try to pick 1 up if they work. Any help would b great. Thanks, Tim http://www.tools4flooring.com/media/catalog/product/cache/4/image/270x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/r/o/roberts-10-64.jpg

First coat of stain looks horrible. Buff out?

Sure, a screen can take the bubbles out if the finish. My problem with screening is it leaves swirl scratches. That's why I prefer a square buff and fine paper. finding a system that works best for u is what's best & stick to it

First coat of stain looks horrible. Buff out?

Haha. Actually I use the square buffer with 220 grit paper on a maroon pad before the final coat. 3 3" strips. Works great with no scratch pattern

First coat of stain looks horrible. Buff out?

Lol. Only on pine or other soft woods do I ever use a screen. That's the way my pops taught me!

First coat of stain looks horrible. Buff out?

I've done wood flooring for several years now. After 100 grit on the belt sander we edge with 100, then we use 100 grit paper on the buffer to blend the edges in & remove any streaks for the big machine. Then we use a 6" random orbit on all edges to remove scratches from the edger Then 120 grit...

    Almond finishing

Ken, I'd say that sanding sequence will work great. What are u planning to do the sanding with?! I've finished floors for nearly 20 years now. If it were me, I'd probably use a spar varnish or moisture cure urethane. The spar varnish is thick & hard to work with, but gives a great build. It's...

Anyone ever hear of Petri Paint Co Parlay Big Semi-Gloss?

I've used that product many times. It seems to be a very high quality finish to me. I'd use it more if I didn't have to order a hundred gallons at a time. It goes down nice and smooth & seems to last really well. Tim

    Identify this hardwood

If u want the best looking hickory floor stained, try water popping it. Just a small amount of water is all it takes. What we do is use a small garden sprayer, wipe off the excess water, let it dry, then stain. Try it for your sample

Trowelable Wood Filler For Select Hickory- Need Pro's to chime in

As far as full trowel fillers go, I'm still impressed with timber mates. That's what I would use if I had left very many large gaps otherwise, fix wood patch works well for nail holes & such. I get that at lowes. Lowes also has a new filler by 3m that I liked. The overall color was really...

    Stairway

I don't mind doing the rails & stuff, it's not how I like to earn my money tho. I just learnt how to do them from working with my dad. We generally would install them, since we had to sand stain & finish all of it anyway.

    Identify this hardwood

I do a good bit of hand scraping on hickory. In that case, we always do a stain on it. It helps to make the distressing show up. It's by far my favorite wood for distressing, because god made it to be so colorful.

    Knee pads

These are still what I prefer. Never did like knee pads. Although for most things the chest part gets in the way. I have 1 with & 1 without

    Transition and shoe moulding question

I always recommend stained shoe. It looks better for a lot longer. Doesn't show dents, u don't have to caulk it or paint it. Just sand, stain, instal & fill the brad holes. IMO I would go ahead & install whatever base shoe or 1/4 round u has 2, then cut your t-mold tight to that. Then if the...

    Mini-Circular Saws

Used 1 to cut in some plywood on a second floor a couple months ago. Hooked it to my rigid vac. Did great. Hardly any just cutting in side. Sure helped save up & down the stairs so much.
