Transition / Threshold ideas for apartment entry door

Good points. I was thinking about putting a rug outside the apartment entry.

Transition / Threshold ideas for apartment entry door

How much gap is ideal for a metal door above the finished floor? The door is in-swing into the apartment.

Transition / Threshold ideas for apartment entry door

It is a 3 family apartment building (1 apartment on each floor). My plan is to get the flooring in before the metal door frame goes in.

Transition / Threshold ideas for apartment entry door

Thanks CJ. I was thinking about installing the metal door jamb on the finished floor and notching the higher side (3/4" hardwood floor side) with an angle grinder. It's harder to see imperfections on the cut metal door jamb than it is on the cut flooring b/c of the angle of viewing. I don't...

Transition / Threshold ideas for apartment entry door

I'm trying to figure out how to transition from a hardwood floor to a LVP floor in which the transition occurs right in the doorway. Inside the apartment is 3/4" hardwood. The common hallways will be LVP. The door is metal door with metal frame. The metal frame hasn't been installed yet so I...

Flooring for common area of apartment building

5-6 hours?? That's impressive!!! I'll find a way to take 5-6 days. When you work on stairs like mine, do you typically remove the balusters?

Flooring for common area of apartment building

Interesting idea on using metal stair nosing. I saw some lvp complete treads and they were ~$40 a piece!!! I googled and found some nice lvp metal stair nosing profiles at HD. See 1st pic. Not cheap. Works out to $15 a step. Another alternative is using the classic metal stair nosing. See...

Flooring for common area of apartment building

Yeah good call on flipping the treads to avoid cleaning the glue off. Some are not going to be symmetrical b/c of newel posts etc, but a decent amount can be salvaged. ~80% of 28 steps.

Flooring for common area of apartment building

I pulled up a stair tread. I'm guessing it pine. Scratches easy. And the subfloor was 4" t&g pine. Building is 100 years old. I should be able to remove all the vinyl glue on tile off the treads and sand them down smooth. I would need to shim underneath the treads to get them level...

Worth keeping an extra box of pre-finished hardwood flooring?

I have an extra box of pre-finished hardwood flooring. 20sq ft of 5" wide white oak stain a light brown color. Is it worth holding onto? The issue is where do I keep it. It's going to have to go in the basement. The other option is to return it to home depot.

Flooring for common area of apartment building

What type of flooring is best to use for an apartment building's common hallways and stairs. The existing flooring is going to get ripped to the subfloor. I'm looking for something easy to install. I do not want to tile it. Does LVP make sense for this application? The building is a 3-family...

The door is on the other side of the door stop.

Large transition from hardwood floor to bathroom tile.

I made a threshold out of some scrap hardwood flooring by glueing 2 pieces at a 90 degree angle. It fits well, but I see some modifications I'd like to make to a final threshold. The threshold should flare out to door casing. I think the front of the threshold should be cut to the same plane...

Large transition from hardwood floor to bathroom tile.

My finished hardwood floor sits 1" above the finished bathroom tile. I picked up a matching threshold strip but that only makes up 9/16" of the difference. What are my options to get a finished look b/w the tile and the hardwood flooring? I haven't installed the last strip of hardwood...

    Acclimating Hardwood flooring before installation

I started the installation a few days ago. Making some slow progress. It's hard work on the body. I find myself either hunched over or kneeling. Here are some observations. Questions in bold. The first pic below shows a large open space. Thats the entryway, living room, dining room, and...
