This is about 2300 square feet. It has water damage and its being torn out and replaced.
I did my own measuring and came up with 2336 SQ ft.
The lady found the original installers notes. He came up with 2271. The job ran very tight with nothing leftover.
What percentage do you add to an 8" wide plank installation?
This isn't simply wide plank. It's random lengths, varying from 12" to at least 6 foot. Totally random lengths.
I measured the angled plank portion by making rectangles out of the area. Blue indicates waste.

Anyway I measured the job tight for the easy rooms and not excessive on the angled portions either.
What percentage would you add?
It's probably going to be over $50,000 just for the wood. It's one VERY NICE home.

I just measure, the shop adds a percentage on to my figures. I don't want them running short.

Seems like 10% waste factor is a lot these days but it used to be the norm and you went up from there. 25% if on the bias. Some large pattern tiles would require more so you could maintain the pattern match but I would think for installation purposes 10% would be sufficient unless there was some other reason to order more.

Still not sure? Make it 15% and hold back a few boxes in the warehouse.

Maybe 10% on the square part of the house and 15% on all the angled parts?
For scale, the 3 larger rectangles in the kitchen and dining room are 10' wide and the blue colored "waste" parts in the corner allow for a little wiggle room. I've never measured anything quite like this one.
