I wonder if all historians fill in the blanks when they don't know the whole story? I personally know two people who wrote history books about my area in the civil war and know that both of them made up some of the stuff.
Then if you remember the stuff you learned in elementary school we know now they "sanitized" some of it.
It seems that people write lies about their heroes to make them seem more heroic.
Any opinions?

You mean Custer WASN'T A GOOD GUY? When I think back at some of what I was taught in school about the history of this country alone, there were a lot of facts switched around to protect the guilty/greedy. Go figure. And it hasn't stopped yet.
