"I don't know if this is more widespread or just my area... But, my wife, myself, and a friend have all been called today from a 00000000 number on our cell phones. The recording says it's from Chase/Mastercard and our credit card has been locked because of possible fraudulent purchases. It then asks you to enter your card number and press #. I'd assume that after that it will ask for the rest of your information. I don't have any credit cards, only a debit card through Visa/my bank.

For anyone who doesn't know, this is referred to as "phishing". "Phishing is the act of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication."

Might be smart to pass this on to other family members and friends. Maybe just remind them to be very careful of what information they give out over the phone or internet. Always try to be 100% positive of who you are talking to, as these people can be very creative."

I got one today with the same number . Either don't answer , or hangup .

Yup, also Windows will never call you.

If someone calls saying they are with Windows hang up.

I use to ask them to hold on a minute , then i would set the phone down next to me till i heard them hang up .

I do that as well. Most of my phone solicitor calls are about my google places.
They always start out as; "Your google places has not been updated, please wait for a google specialist for help." Or "we can help you get on the front page of a goog search", "we can build you a website" something like that.

F'ing A, I ask them, have you bothered to actually look or do a search? They stutter, I hang up.

This happens like ten times a day. Luckily I can weed out the solicitors with my smart phone. If the call is not orginating from Tucson I wave it off, let the phone answer it. If they leave a message and are trully interested in my services they will leave a message.
Problem is, these days people take their phones with them when they move and it comes up as long distance call, but, if they are in my city, the smart phone tells me the call is originating from my city, Tucson.

Just for that reason, I loveisis my smart phone.

The smart phones are nice E, But i spend a lot of time on the desktop fixing confusers. I have texting turned off on my phone . these things can take control of your life .

Yeah, Daris's emails can take a loooong time to read. ;)

I prefer texting clients after the initial bid is on and accepted. Takes less time than emailing.
