In Remembrance
"I don't know if this is more widespread or just my area... But, my wife, myself, and a friend have all been called today from a 00000000 number on our cell phones. The recording says it's from Chase/Mastercard and our credit card has been locked because of possible fraudulent purchases. It then asks you to enter your card number and press #. I'd assume that after that it will ask for the rest of your information. I don't have any credit cards, only a debit card through Visa/my bank.
For anyone who doesn't know, this is referred to as "phishing". "Phishing is the act of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication."
Might be smart to pass this on to other family members and friends. Maybe just remind them to be very careful of what information they give out over the phone or internet. Always try to be 100% positive of who you are talking to, as these people can be very creative."
I got one today with the same number . Either don't answer , or hangup .
