a nice informative post am. It should be sticky'd. I'd also add cork is used extensively in libraries and art museums for its sound adsorbtion. Older people like it because it is soft underfoot as they have joint and or foot problems and standing in one place for short periods of time is uncomfortable.

Informative post, hardwoods are more valuable than softwoods because the wood is scarer. The best way to identify wood would be by its grain and color. The cell structure of each tree is different. If the cells are large and the wood texture is rough then a filler may be needed to smoothen the surface. If the cells are small and the texture is smooth then they don’t require filling. Woods with very distinctive pattern are more valuable than wood with a subdued pattern. The weaker the grain of the wood, the more stain we have to give to give them more character. You could assess the wood by finding out how old it is.Secondly you could look at the color, though the color may vary greatly from tree to tree, their tone will be constant within a species. Some woods have their distinct color characteristic like for instance only poplar has that green tinge to it and only rosewood can be dark purple and lastly the grain.Check whether they are open or close grained.
