Mercier's 1/2" premium wood engineered floor

I have Mercier's 1/2" premium wood engineered floor and want to resurface and stain a different color. Can someone give me advice as to the grade of the sand paper i should use and any tips how to do it.. Ie use floor sander or hand sander? Oil vs Water based stain. thanks!

Many engineered floors have such a thin top coat that resurfacing must be done very delicately. You first need to contact the manufacturer to determine if the product could be resurfaced.
