Hello everyone, I am currently renovation one of the bedrooms in my house, the house was built in 1959 and has hardwood floors. There is bad water damage on some planks and the only option is to replace. I sent some pictures to a flooring specialist and they believed it was red oak and sent me some oak, and red oak samples. Currently the floor has been sanded down with 36 grit and I believe all the finish has been removed.
When you set the red oak down on the floor it matches almost completely perfectly to the existing floor, however if you wet both the floor and the sample I received, my existing floor is much much darker. I'm worried that once I put finish down the existing floor is going to look like that darker color and won't match. Am I correct in thinking this, or if they match when dry, once the finish is applied they will look the same.
