Should stair baseboard/trim installed like one piece down to the last step?

The stair goes to the attic. Is the stair baseboard/trim installed correctly or it should be installed like a one piece down to the last step? See the picture

You can do it either way. It's more of a design question.

Personal taste. For me, I don't like it run to the bottom.

We don't use that out west much but I like the stringer to meet the base. Does that make sense or did I have too much chardonnay?
