Tailgate Down Myth Debunked

I read that article. I would have thought the tailgate down would have had less wind drag on the vehicle. I bought 2008 Silverado a couple of years ago and always left the tailgate up. Then last summer I had to take some crates to the CFI convention in Nashville and had a tonneau cover installed. It probably increased my gas mileage by maybe 5 mpg. I was getting 21 mpg at 71 miles per hour. At least that was how fast the ticket I got said In a 55 mph.

My wife and I alway argue about driving with the windows open having the same effect. I prefer windows down and I think mythbusters did a piece on it. She keeps them up with the AC on. silly girls, lol.
