From what I've read, the diet sodas cause as much fat as they are suppose to keep from happening. And they are addictive. I've changed from diet sodas to regular, and the real sugar Pepsi's when I drink one of them. No change in weight from doing this.
 
I'm Diabetic ,and the Doctor says they are worst for you then regular soda .

I drink Herbal tea , and water .
 
All I ever drank was diet 7 UP until about 3 months ago. Now it is strictly water with 2 exceptions. Monday night and Thursday night. Those are my popcorn nights-no dinner- and for whatever reason I like diet Coke with that. And an occasional beer.
