Where am I going wrong?

Hi all,

I invested in a UHS floor machine [burnisher] this past summer but the first time using it didn't go exactly to plan.

There were four coats of eternum floor polish by Diversey laid and I used a 20 inch white pad.

Most of the passes down the corridor [marmoleum floor] were smooth but in some places the machine got stuck and it burnt the floor finish. You could even smell it.

What are we thinking - that there wasn't an even amount of polish throughout the entire corridor or the white pad slightly too harsh for the finish?

Is the floor uneven where your burnisher got hung up? Dip or a crown that the pad gets high centered or dishes out in, as opposed to floating smoothly across the floor.
