    Carpet rip up tool

150 bucks at harbor freight, some lumber, and tackstrip. Boss wasn't as excited as we were but he wasn't on the labor side. Cable is rated higher than winch so no worries about snapped lines. Crude but worked.

    looking for help identifying flooring

I just told them to take a picture to a full service flooring store and let their design team put together something. The contractor mentioned they didnt want to spend $250 for the finish schedule from the print site. its a freaking 3400sf house. too many red flags. I was thinking sheet vinyl...

    looking for help identifying flooring

I got a call from a builder with a client who wants to install the flooring pictured throughout the entire home. All I have to go on is pictures and a virtual walk-through. I do not know of any hardwood that has no end joints and can perform in wet areas but whatever, lol. I told them I would...

    Carpet transition to vinyl planks

We have a local mill that makes solid oak transitions. I also have a great prefinisher down the street that can match colors very well. Much more solid that mdf and plastic. Just have to plan ahead or go back because of finishing turn around time. I've given up on matching stain myself. Gets...

What is your estimate of top gas price in your area?

Prices were in the mid 2 buck range in southern Oregon 2 years ago. I remember paying 5.25 a gallon in Crescent City, CA in 2007. I have been kicking around buying a hybrid maverick for a runaround rig but we still can't get vehicles with getting "the business" from dealers.

What is your estimate of top gas price in your area?

Customers are finally starting to understand why I charge to for a site visit. The pump is going to hurt for a while but what worries me is when several of the stations in my area are running out of fuel.

    Toast of the day

Heck yeah! I have 3lbs of chorizo, 7lbs of carne asada, and 2 lbs of pollo asado. Sun's out, not too cold, and working on my Monday hangover. I hate winter and live to eat and drink with the family. Cheers!

Carpet Repair only as side business

Consider subcontracting with installers or stores as well. I would love to have a competent repair guy in my circle. If you cant fix the carpet you can probably make a sale for me. Win-win

Carpet Repair only as side business

I considered this myself before deciding to get back into contracting on my own. I was looking at pairing repairs with helping DIYers by spending a couple hours showing them acceptable prep, layout, and installation techniques but never ran with it. I love the idea of a repair business because...

    Toast of the day

I was under the assumption that blue raspberry was a mix of blueberry and raspberry, hence the name.

Do you think it wrinkled before the customer got home

many people would rather pay someone qualified to fix a bad job than call back the original installer. i want my customers calling back because its usually another job and an easy sell.

    door jamb and casing gap

we removed 1/2" click hardwood and are going in with LVP. H.O. instaIlation so undercuts are random heights. I thought the owners were going to install new casing at the doors but they are not. I mentioned the height difference but failed to make sure they understood exactly what that would look...

    Current news

Just restarted contracting and the going rate hasnt even been looked at. If people are willing to pay 3x more for materials today than 10 years ago they can pay at least 1.5x more for labor. We sell a luxury item most the time. It costs what it costs.

Paint sprayer for base and shoe

I just painted all my trim in my house this last year. most was over hardwood and the rest tile and before new rug. i bought the best trim paint sherman has and used a 4 inch hotdog roller and brush to cut the top in. good paint heals well, making brushmarks a non issue. I used to have a painter...

Bought the $300 graco from lowes last year to paint a shed i built. Borrowed a wagner and it broke. After painting the shed i wished i had painted the outside of my house myself.

    Current news

Damn proud of my time in the military and my tour in iraq. proud of those who served before, during, with, and after as well. finding very little to be proud of regarding my country these days. disgusted in the attitudes and behaviors of those on the left and right. this is just one more...

    Current news

My wife and kid get to spend the next 2 weeks home because someone on the bus tested positive for covid. My anti vax brother inlaw just infected his wife so the last 2 weeks have not been fun for them. Fortunately their 1 year old has avoided getting sick. I was just getting medical advise from...

    Current news

What cracks me up about the paranoid microchip/tracking conspiracy theorist is the ones that worry the most typically have the least to offer. 99 percent of us are normal, boring citizens whos day to day activities and affiliates are of no use or interest to any government. Its crazy that our...

What do you think of this and can it be fixed?

Many installers know each other in the areas they cover. I would be reluctant to put something in writing as well because I would appear to have conflict of interest issues. I was hired to babysit a crew that was replacing a marmo job that failed but the manufacturer made the recommendation to...
