Roger Stone is not just a long time associate of Trump's but he is the one who introduced Trump to Gates (and I think Manafort) back in the 80s. I believe all 3 of them have ties to Russian mobsters.

Manafort still has another trial coming for other charges. They already got him on some of the financial crimes, but there are more charges pending for other things. According to a retired FBI counterintelligence agent as well as other people who worked in the intel community, it is common to keep information & some of the charges for things under wraps to not tip their hand to other targets of their investigation. Stone is the guy who helped broker information trade deals with Russians & Trump. There was a guy (I think Smith) who had testified about it earlier but he "mysteriously" died from alleged suicide afterward. Just because they haven't publicly implicated Trump overtly doesn't mean he's innocent. They already have incriminating statements (and audio tapes) on Trump from Cohen. Also, the people who took plea deals were taking lesser charges. Being charged with conspiracy or treason might have been taken off the table in exchange for a plea.

Kushner looks to be on the hook for espionage at this point. He tried to set up a secret back channel to the Kremlin via the Russian embassy so he could exchange information. Trump didn't just accidentally or mistakenly surround himself with criminals. Birds of a feather.

It seems the SOTU address was important enough for Trump that he was willing to cave- at least temporarily. Since the deal is only for 3 weeks, I think he believed he could get his SOTU address & then shut the government down again to try to get what he wanted, but Pelosi said that he won't get that address until a mutually agreed upon date (which is what her original offer was). That means, if she puts it off at least 3 weeks, he doesn't get his precious speech until it is guaranteed the government won't get shut down again. I hope that in the 3 weeks they pass legislation to prevent shutdowns in the future. Federal employees need protection from being the pawns of political dick measuring contests. If they can't agree on the new budget, roll over previous one and keep it going until they can agree. Any funding that needs to be renewed can be extended until they do come up with an agreement.

Of course not. It means he's guilty. :D
Trump that he was willing to cave- at least temporarily.

How does a counter offer turn into cave? It's called negotiating. What's Pelosi's 1/2 way offer?
$2 instead of $1 ?

What bothers me about all this wall nonsense is that Trump coulda had it done before the Dems took the house. He had the senate and house in his hand. All he did was go golfing. Which leads me to believe this is just bullsh*t.

I won't gripe about Trump signing off on allowing the government to open- it needs to happen. I just hope he doesn't renege at the last minute. These negotiations should be done without screwing up the lives & pay of the federal workers. They may get backpay, but the government contractors will not. Nor will businesses that suffered as a result of the government employees not being able to pay. If a shutdown is even allowed to happen again, it needs to be changed so that the legislators and president have to work without pay- not the lower tier people who can't afford it.

It's too bad my idea for border security would never work (and would be inhumane): Set up little turrets along the border in places that are passable, load them up with sensors that can detect humans crossing (but can differentiate between humans and animals), have paintball guns loaded with paintballs. Someone tries to cross, they get nailed. If they still manage to cross, they are covered in paint!

Btw, if you read the details of Roger Stone's indictment, it links to the indictment of 12 GRU agents. Some people are claiming Don Jr. is next, but they've said that before and I won't hold my breath.

Be nice if after this is all done, someone will come forward with a bill that will end the issue of budgets not continuing into the following year. ......well, the workers get paid, but not members of congress. :D

Highup, I completely agree that the first people who should have pay withheld when the government shuts down are the president and Congress members. It would be ideal if there just weren't any shutdowns at all. When they had a shutdown previously, people yelled at Congress and told them they shouldn't get paid. They cited some law that prevented them from affecting their own pay (that they conveniently ignore every time they vote to give themselves raises).

The e-verify thing reminded me of a video INS put out (internally) in the 90s. I think it was about something they called INSPASS (or something like that) where they had a guy in a Star Trek uniform walk up to a computer. He stuck his ID in to the machine and stood close for a retinal scan. The card matched the scan so he was allowed through. It was supposed to be "the future of INS". In the airport INS office, they also had a cool machine they showed me that let them put ID cards in it and you could see if there was hidden ink underneath (to see if a card had been altered). They had a card that was legit and one that was altered and showed the difference- you could see where something was changed or where they overlayed a piece of paper over the original ID & had it re-laminated.

Unfortunately, none of that will help with people sneaking through tunnels. But e-verify is an interesting idea. Not good if there are computer errors or glitches or if things got lost or accidentally erased/removed from a database- like my medical records did.

Our legislators don't want a system like yours.............. to our legislators they aren't illegal immigrants Ern, their immigrants. (and future voters)

So your telling me the you work for the politicians or they work for you? Who tells whom what to do? Start a campaign for e-verify. This is why they are still coming in waves is because if they get through AZ they can get a job up north.
