Have been discussing with "fitters" in the UK why they put double naplock in doorways instead of seaming the carpet together. They don't know why, it has just always been done that way. I found it interesting.

I am from Scotland my personal opinion with double naps bars at the door ways is because estimates don't need to worrie about piles goin the same way and can have different carpets in different areas, we had an American customer in askin if she could get them all seamed at the doors, the estimator said she has to pay an addistional 600 to have it done the American way with out bars at the doors, I don't mind seaming doors if I have to as I charge for it to be done

Metal at doorways is just gaudy.

When I was in SF area in the 80's they used flat bar or pin tape in doorways. I was shocked.

We used Pin tape in the doorways to make seems years ago before the iron.

Thumb always slipped off the porcupine. :)

We used it a couple of times but I wasn't very impressed with it. Worse was cutting open bedroom/hallway pin tape seams to attach new hallway carpet.
