Look at the billions of dollars spent/wasted over the decades on arresting and incarcerating pot smokers and it's never made the slightest dent in it's usage. It worked as good as prohibition did. Prohibition ended because they realized enforcement was a fruitless endeavor.

Medical use marijuana was legal before this latest proposition. This new law will just allow the mexican Cartels to become richer, crimes will again increase, and we will have more folks killed on the road due to impaired drivers. The pothead liberals, who have never held down a job, will now have something to do in their spare time.

You can grow 6 plants at home for free, why buy from the 'cartel'? I bet this puts the cartel's panties in a painfully huge wad. It's going to be regulated and taxed like booze in a little over a year like here in Oregon.
If a cartel runner gets busted, he's in big trouble just like now.
People that smoke and drive impaired now will still do it, same as 'conservative' drinkers who chose to do so.
If you smoke it and your employer says you can't, you can be legally fired for having it in your system if checked. It shows up in your blood test for as much as a month, so 3 weeks after smoking it at a Superbowl party you can risk getting fired. Drink till ya puke, 4 days a week and they won't fire you unless it affects your work. Tell me that's fair.
I don't smoke, by the way.
Funny that when pot is brought up, everyone assumes pot smokers all look and behave like Cheech and Chong. That's like envisioning anyone who drinks a beer, crawls home each night after passing out in a gutter.
"Case Van Dorne and Joel Jennings -- owners of a dispensary on Portland's east side and another near the Beaverton border -- say business is brisk. Their west-side location on bustling Southwest Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway sees 400 to 800 customers on a typical Friday, and the east-side shop sees between 250 and 400.

"Doctors come in in scrubs, lawyers in suits, chefs fresh out of a greasy kitchen - people are stopping by to pick up some weed and going home to watch a movie," Van Dorne said."

That said, the government needs to get on the ball creating a "breathalyzer" to check for intoxication. ............maybe something really simple. How 'bout this?
Cop pulls you over for suspicion of impaired driving....... you pass the breathalyzer test, but a second cop counts how many times you look at the Dunkin' Doughnut box he placed on the hood of his car after they pulled you over.
If you glance at the box more than three times, it's Book em Dano time. :D

This hits close to home for me Hi. I was part of the anti pot coalition for my city when they tried allowing marijuana facilities to be built in my own city. Many people just see the "high" points, forgetting to use the real life models from Colorado when it was legalized in their state. Most of the pro pot coalitions are now seeing the true impact from marijuana, not just the glossy good things. By the way, our side won overwhelmingly, using the true facts, not the trumped up pro-pot fuzzy headed dreamers.

Bottom line is murders are up, all crime is up, taxes are not there, unemployment has skyrocketed, home prices have decreased, impaired driving arrests are up, etc.

Pot smokers make the murder rate go up? I see no changes here.

Go back to the 1990's or any other decade, the up and down swings year to year jump all over the place. The 90's were a lot worse not even mentioning the population was 40% less. From the statistics I see here, two years of data doesn't tell much of anything unless the data is cherry picked.
2012, 152
2013, 174
2014, 150
2015, 176
The data here shows burglaries have been dropping steadily since the 80's with the past two years the lowest ever recorded, even with the population doubling.
Larceny robbery, aggravated assault and vehicle theft, same thing especially factoring in the higher population.
Biggest obstacle I see is away to determine driving impairment like a Breathalyzer does. Whoever invents that device is gonna make millions..... sooner the better.

According to insurance companies, the biggest cause of traffic accidents is distracted driving, primarily cell phone use. Even more accidents and deaths than drunk drivers. I personally think it should be completely illegal to use a cell phone while driving. I dodge drivers every day that are distracted by a phone or eating or putting on makeup.

Make it a felony.

It's been a $300.00 fine here for a few years . Changed nothing .

Our first offence is $500. Second offence is $1000. This isn't stopping our idiots as well..
I think it's $500 for first timers here too. From the number of times I see people on the phone while driving, that fine has not changed the habit one bit. Raising the fine to $1000 probably wouldn't either. Instead of a fine, I think it would be better to require classes like they do for alcohol..... show em graphic images of fatal accidents caused my phone use and have good instructors to be sure the offenders do some soul searching. I doubt fines will ever do much to stop phone use. People need the pain of having to go to classes week, after week, after week, which disrupts their daily lives. With graphic displays and good instructors, I bet that might have a larger impact. Fines ought to be high enough to pay for the classes, but not pave roads or install bird baths and flowers in the local parks. Fines are punishment and these people need education.
When I first got a phone I tried to dial while driving.............. I tried on a few occasions, but it just didn't feel comfortable.
I'll still pick up the phone when I feel safe enough to glance at who called if I'm expecting a call, but I'll pull over if I need to answer. If it's an unknown number or something that can wait, I'll stop when I get to my destination. My phone isn't hands free, so it's too distracting to use it while driving............... and the string is only 3/4 mile long. :D

Awhile back they were suppose to put a chip in the new phones that would shut them down if it detected you were moving . Never heard anymore about it .

They need to make it a moving violation. Right now, it is a reportable offense however you could get 20 of these violations and it doesn't hurt your insurance at all. I'm really surprised the insurance companies aren't rallying around this a bit more. Maybe get two, you lose your license for a year?
