How come you have to look so hard to tell where a skier or boarder is from?
I figure the helmets, sleeves or elsewhere on their gear ought to be shouting out with pride where everyone is from.

They are all professionals, they get paid to compete.
But it's an even field of pros semi-pros and close-to-pros from all countries. Nobody sends the best high school seniors. They train for 10 or 15 years, with a focus on Olympic goals. It's not an accident they get there and not cheap to devote your life to that goal. Obvious companies are focused on them. In a nutshell, the best country wins without using Russians.
...I meant without using steroids. :D

The one kid from Colorado that won a gold in snowboarding was 17.

Floorist as the Mother of a National Level Ice Dancer when she was a teen, USA is one of the only nations that does not support our atheletes financially. They have to have sponsors, etc. I was lucky that my daughter was a good ice dancer match to the son of a millionaire that took over her ice bills, travel, hotels, skates, etc.. For about 8 years. Otherwise, she would not have 2 national medals.

Other countries do allow support for their atheletes. About the only pros I know of for the Olympics from USA is the basketball and I think hockey players.

Congrats to her Angie ..

Thanks guys. It was fun, as the ice she won the last medal on with her partner, was the ice rink where Nancy's knee got whacked.

It was fun telling the northern rinks that Alabama did have ice. (back then we had a very good UAH hockey team).
