I don't think we even need permits except for concealed carry here. When my father died, the cop even picked up and examined his M-14 (after asking if he could handle it) and didn't say a word in complaint. Of course, maybe he figured it was a really bad time to say something about it, but they never came back to complain.

Mandatory 5 year stretch here carrying without a permit.

The worlds we collectively live in (New Jersey/California/Arizona/Kansas/Oregon) are so far apart culturally and geographically it's silly to think there ought to be a single standard across the nation with regard to gun laws------SPECIFICS.

In general, I oppose all restrictions on basic handguns and regular hunting type rifles including concealed carry for non-felons. But there are extremes of military weaponry than no CITIZEN who is not a member of a "well regulated militia" should be handling whatsoever under any circumstance.

So without being very specific as to when, where, what and why debates about these various political controversies are like pissing into the wind.

Lots of blowback.

You really cannot buy military weapons. Military have the option of full-auto. The AR rifles are semi-auto just like almost all hunting rifles. By the way, AR does not mean "assault rifle" , it is the initials of the manufacturer.

A federal judge on Thursday blocked a California law set to take effect Saturday that would have barred gun owners from possessing high-capacity ammunition magazines.

The judge ruled that the ban approved by the Legislature last year takes away gun owners' Second Amendment rights and amounts to the government taking people's private property without compensation.

California law has prohibited buying or selling the magazines since 2000, but until now allowed those who had them to keep them.

"If this injunction does not issue, hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of otherwise law-abiding citizens will have an untenable choice: become an outlaw or dispossess one's self of lawfully acquired property," San Diego-based U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez wrote.

Another win for the constitution and the citizens of the socialist utopia of California ! woo hoo!
