Hee heee................ I gave too much info.
Here's a photo 3 hours earlier.
A ship made a very expensive boo boo trying to anchor offshore to wait out a storm so that a pilot could be put on board to bring it in to port.
....................um, ya don't do that here because of the sandy shoreline. Ships arrive off shore and go round in circles, zig zag, or whatever they want to do until they can come it do dock. Sometimes they are doing this for 2, 3 or 4 days. Some days, they arrive on time and are brought in almost as soon as they get here.
A local ship pilot must be on board to "drive" the ship in. If the weather is too bad, the ship just has to wait it out.
Anyway, the captain of the ship decided to anchor off shore. I have never heard of a ship doing this here. The winds were pretty nasty. 50 to 60 as I recall. He decided to anchor and wait it out. Well long story short, they didn't pay attention and the ship drifted in too close and once they noticed this, they tried to head out under full power. These ships are not known for power, so he ended up getting grounded and kept drifting farther on shore till he was right on the beach. The weather stayed bad for too long and they could not attach tow lines on it in an attempt to drag it off the sand.
It took weeks........... or months to decide what to do with it. They eventually made a half a dozen attempts to light it on fire to burn off the ships bunker fuel.
This folks, is your government at work, about to napalm the ship.
These photos were taken from 2 1/2 to 3 miles away. The road I was on was covered with local, and national TV trucks.
Ladies and gentlemen, here is the New Carissa
