Replacing laminate flooring that is on top of asbestos flooring

I was hoping to get advice on a diy project my wife are going to try in a week. We have laminate flooring in our living room that was laid on top of asbestos flooring 16 years ago during a remodel. My wife would like us to remove the laminate flooring and lay new flooring on top of the asbestos flooring that is currently there. I do not not know the current state of the asbestos flooring under our current flooring. If the asbestos flooring is all intact should I still be concerned? I am concerned about disturbing the asbestos tiles as I remove and replace the laminate. Also. the current laminate flooring is not attached to the asbestos tiles. I would appreciate any advice or guidance.

Do you know what the flooring actually is? 9" by 9" tiles? If they are, I wouldn't worry the slightest bit about them. It's when they get sanded that they become a health issue. If you don't plan on sanding, just sweep, vacuum, mop ... what ever you want to do is fine.

If in doubt about the fibers getting airbourne Spray it with water as you take up the laminate. Just don't sand it or abraide it. Each statee is different but here in Michigan I can remove asbestos flooring as long as I stick to the parameters of the state.
