Striped Carpet Runner with Pie Steps

Ok ! I dusted off the portable binder and the fabrication cobwebs …. One of My nephew’s, who was a part time helper during high school summers, just bought his first house. He’s a finance analyst
( class of 2017 Penn State ) and has a great job. Here’s some project photos

I notch out a section, on the right side, to give the appearance of a straight line. I could have removed just a little more for a better look.

Go Penn State! I always hated wrapping stairs that have that cove molding under the lip. I like a clearly defined overhang. That cove piece makes the stair look different, like a double chin, and you gotta be that much more careful with your tack placement.

The bow and skew was nasty, so I spit the difference by compromising both the length pattern on the treads and the wood margins ( 3.25” at top and 4” at bottom)
Surprisingly after stretching one side tighter than the other ( Crain stair stretcher) I was able to get it closer to straightness. As for the 2 ea. angled Pie steps, I made the skewed pattern straight across the nose.

Ahhhh, better you than me. I'll eat the chicken next time and watch and learn.
........I may never use my learnins, but I'd much rather be on the watchin' side of stair runners.

Good thing I’m only 6’0” not 6’3”., ( tI was able to fit my leg / kicker across the pie sts.

Height helps sometimes, not always an advantage in this trade.
