tile entry only 1/2" height to work with

Hi all, I am installing tile to my entry, raised ranch 30 SF. My dilemma is I have to match to 1/2"bullnose. Plywood is only 1/2 " if I use 1/4 "wonderboard. And 1/4 tile to and 1/4"tile notched trowel. What is my final height. Does 1/4"tile notched trowel raise tile by 1/4 " or should I just set morter and tile on plywood.

A quarter inch trowel will only raise the height 1/8 inch, depending on how much water you add.

Might make it using DITRA.
1/8" DITRA + 5/16" tile, May have to go easy on the thinset but you can probably get it down under 1/8" per application (2) if your lucky.
