The southern coast has been 35 to 50 and 100 miles inland it's been crazy cold....highs of 25, lows single digits some places. Tomorrow more freezing rain, then finally warming up. It's a mess. Lots of power lines down, trees, branches, utility pole down. Probably 100,000 without power and more ice on the way.
The cold just didn't make it down this far.

-6 here today, 4th day in a row. No idea how I will pay the heat bill

We made these redwood planters 3 years ago and the spar varnish flaked, yellowed, peeled away and eventually exposed the bare wood. She's calling them "planters" but I sold her on the idea of setting potted plants on top of these boxes rather than inside like a real box. We did those 20 years ago at our other house. I didn't want that overtop my pavers.

I chose that marine varnish because I thought it could live there but I underestimated the SUN.......UV light about 12 hours per day?

Lasted 3 summers. I have plenty of leftover sandpaper and varnish so it's only costing me elbow grease and precious tine

Those look awesome, Incognito!
Other than coughing so much I puked on myself, I've been stumbling around feeding cats and feeling like crap.
Water has been out since the freeze the other night. Yesterday it was too cold and I felt too sick to go check and it never got above freezing. Today its sunny so I checked after I fed the cows and got McDonalds for breakfast. A fitting came apart in the pump house. I used primer and a better pvc cement this time. Hopefully it will take. Have to air up the pressure tank again and then let the cistern fill. Hope nothing else is broken.

I felt good for about 5 minutes and now feel like garbage again. Boo (my cat that was sick) followed me around and rolled around in the dirt.

Gonna go air up the pressure tank, turn power back on to let cistern fill, and then turn the shutoffs back on when the cistern is full.

Also got a call from one of my aunts. Her husband died. I wish I could be near her to hug her, although, I wouldn't want to get her sick with whatever crud I have. Covid test was negative.

Took me 20 minutes to just get out of my driveway. Then 45 minutes to get 5 miles into town. Picked up my guy & went to the shop to load up.

Then I said eff it, it’s snowing too hard. Dropped him back off & took my big ass home. I hate winter!

Suppota be 74 and sunny here tomorrow. If I was at home we would have a high of 38 and dropping down to 13 or 14😳. Hangin with the old man ain’t so bad in January but then again I’m also hangin out in an old folks home. You guys know what it’s like working in one, try staying in one. I’ve only been here a little over a week and have I got some stories to tell you guys.

So disappointed right now. I’m flipping the channels and I found a show on TLC called Crack Addicts. Hell yeah, that’s the kinda show I can get into. Come to find out it’s a show about chiropractors. What a let down. I was wanting to see some down n out ****. I may have to put on some YouTube and watch me some Soft White Underbelly to get my fix.

So, first attempt to get the cistern to fill didn't work. Not sure why. Turned power off, let it sit a few hours, turned it back on and it filled. Went in and turned the shutoffs. Heard the pressure tank filling but pump didn't turn on. Went to the house and turned on a faucet. It made a bunch of noise for a couple minutes and then water came out. Toilet started filling. I flushed it and the water came out brown. Flushed again and still brown but lighter. Went to Mom's bathroom while she was sleeping, flushed the toilet, shouted "WATER GO DOWN THE HOOOOOLE!" and woke her up. Checked to see if sink was working and it was. But her cold water side stopped working. I think debris/sediment clogged the aerator. Will have to take it off bc water works in other rooms. Tried to fill up pitchers with water from kitchen sink but it kept having black flakes and the water was brown. only the hot water works on the kitchen sink. Cold needs to be hooked up. It's gross. But, we can wash our hands and flush toilets.

33°F right now and kitties are piled on me.

Headed to the funeral of my best buddy. This is not going to be fun at all.

Sorry to hear that. I’ve always wanted to learn the trumped but the year I would have started music class in middle school is the year they started cutting funding for extra curricular activities n **** so that never happened. Now that my old man is older and closer to that day that he finally gets his wings, I really want to learn the trumpet so I can play Taps at his funeral. Amazon has beginner trumpets for maybe $125. Think I’ll go ahead and get that bucket list item going before it’s too late.
