A Strong Tradition of Gun Ownership

Obama often mentions the expansion of gun rights under those two laws. He wrote in 2011:

"In this country, we have a strong tradition of gun ownership that's handed from generation to generation. Hunting and shooting are part of our national heritage. And, in fact, my administration has not curtailed the rights of gun owners—it has expanded them, including allowing people to carry their guns in national parks and Obama repeatedly expressed support for the Second Amendment, explaining that

"If you’ve got a rifle, you’ve got a shotgun, you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it away."
........if you have a doctor, you can keep your doctor. :D:D:D

One of the guys, was charged with 1st degree murder. Why, because he played a part in the carjacking attempt? The guy in the car shot the kid. That was self protection.

"Carranza faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and attempted aggravated robbery. Morales was arrested on suspicion of one count of grand theft auto and the 17-year-old teen faces felony charges at the juvenile correction center."

"Carranza, Morales, and the 17-year-old boy drove away in a stolen SUV, leaving Allen behind"
Maybe there it's a crime leaving a situation where someone injured............... especially so if you played a part.

In his manifesto he gave Trump cudos. So Jon, how did this guy obtain these weapons? I thought you guys banned semi-auto weapons.

From what I gather he managed to get a large magazine from somewhere which isn't allowed in NZ, maybe he brought it with him from Australia as he is an Aussie. It seems to be a well planned not just a spur of the moment thing

But you can buy AR type weapons? I thought Australia also banned them.

I heard he traveled a lot so maybe he mailed them to himself. Also you can order uppers and lowers, barrels etc and build your own out of parts.

I don't know what the answer is either. But as a gun owner since i was 12 years old i would say i have no problem waiting for several days to buy a gun.
But with gun shows and private sales your never going to stop crazy people from getting guns.
In the middle east there's gun dealers everywhere. You can buy an AK for 50 bucks.
European gun manufacturers are complicit as well selling full automatic weapons to whomever has the dollars .
You can go buy a gun legally if you claim on the form that you dont abuse your spouse and have an order of protection against you, a felony charge, your a citizen and dont partake in drugs and your not an addict, plus you've not been declared a crazed lunitic.
Then in 15 minutes you get to walk out with any gun of your choice.
In many if those instances the feds have no ability to background check several of those checks.
And thats if your buying it from a store.
You can go to local interent gun sales sites and buy ftom another person all day long with no background check, like gun shows .
We need more money spent on behavioral health programs. Even then you'll never stop a determined crazy person whos not on the books from wreaking havoc on the public.

Thats pretty bad Jon. Gunman must have been listening to Trump rhetoric.
That was as uncalled for as uncalled for ever gets!
You're implying Trump likes this sort of thing? I mean, Like he's happy about this and promotes this type of behavior??
Get a grip.

Jon, we've seen this here so yes we know what happened. I am a bit confused. I thought NZ had rather severe restrictions on guns.
..................Maybe I'm thinking that Australia has more restrictive regulations? I assumed they would be about the same.
Very sad day Jon. Sadly nothing will stop people bent on mayhem like this.
I mean, ......take away the guns................... Imagine him and 4 crazy friends pouring petro from 5 gallon cans at the mosque entrances and exits and even running inside doing the same thing.
Nobody can stop the nut cases that exist in the world. Maybe the media (Facebook etc) can play a part in not letting these racists connect with each other.
Sad day Jon. The entire world is wondering how this sort of thing could happen .............in of all places, NZ. :(

Now I agree with most all of that. Nobody has the real answer. Ya can't stop crazy by punishing the normal. Just sad that some people live their lives with so much hate.
There are different degrees of "Muslim" Their book isn't really pretty when taken in context. Muslims, like Christians or Jews don't often follow the extreme teachings of old books. They live and follow the parts of their religions teachings as they feel comfortable with.
I don't believe most Muslims want us dead. ....a lot of them yes, but the overwhelming majority nah.
Live and let live.................. unless they kill innocent.............. unarmed people in prayer.
................The perpetrator filmed this event as he pulled off his nasty deed. I think it's justifiable to film each of his fingernails being slowly pulled out (one at a time) before his electrocution.
.........................which would be a 12 hour period starting at 12 volts and slowly ramping up to whatever it takes.
So sad people think like that.

I don't know the answer either
The murdering of 40 or so people and wounding about the same number would be a fairly high percentage of our total population of about 4 million compared to other countries so I wonder that he picked one of our larger cities?
I did see today a church not far from me which was fenced off
I wonder how he will get on in jail? Saw on the news photos that members of The Mongrel Mob were offering their condolences to the Muslims today and there are a lot of Mongrel Mob in our jails. I also do not think Kiwis will like to have to support him in jail with our tax money
I do not know anybody who owns a gun here, my uncle did have a rifle but he lived on a farm, so I don't know what the gun laws are here
