How to mouseproof a computer chassis?

I'm hoping the peppermint oil will work as a deterrent & that the mesh will keep them from chewing. Knocking on wood.

Apparently the hard drive went bonkers again. It said disk read error. I don't know if it's the mainboard or if the drive is bad. Could be the mice previously chewed or damaged something.

I'm hoping the data can still be retrieved.

Nick, it's windows 10 home. I got a cable that is needed for data transfer/testing so we'll have to see. I'm hoping it was just the cables that are messed up & not the hard drive.

So, my friend has been super busy & finally had time to look at the computer again. Tested her hard drive & it's fine. Tried to boot. Heard some beeps. Checked to make sure things were connected, took RAM out & looked at it w/ bright LED flashlight. At first glance, RAM is corroded. Then he moved stuff aside & looked at the processor- it's corroded & so is the edge of the mainbaord.

The chassis is also rusted from the mice. Cooling unit, DVD drive, power supply, & HD, and graphics card should all be OK (still need to clean up the DVD drive). He recommended replacing the chassis, mainboard, RAM, & CPU- as well as getting some heatsink. He also suggested getting an M2 slot 1tb ssd since her current ssd is only 250gb. We'll be able to backup all her games, taxes, as well as files from my computer that were on my father's hard drive. Can make sure she has a copy of his memoirs & photos.

My friend found stuff on Newegg, but I found the same stuff on Amazon for cheaper/same price but get free shipping.

So far here is the build:

Chassis: Fractal Design FD-CA-Focus-BU-W Focus G ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Petrol Blue
RAM: Patriot Viper 4 16GB Kit (2 X 8GB) 3400 MHz (PC4-27200) DDR4
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 Processor with Wraith Spire LED Cooler
Heatsink: ARCTIC MX-4 2019 Edition
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F OR cheaper option MSI Arsenal (B450 Tomahawk)
SSD: Crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD
Might also need the bracket to attach her liquid cooling unit. Trying to figure out if it's the Corsair H100i Pro, v1, or v2.

The SSD is not essential so it might get knocked off the list.

Thanks, Rusty. Even if he hadn't given me computer advice, I'd still miss Nick. I only knew him from the internet but it still made me cry. I know it must have hit his family and longterm friends very hard.

The chassis my mother is getting has metal screens inside to keep bugs out. Hopefully it will also keep mice out, but my friend is going to check to make sure there are no openings for them.

Several of us had been friends with him for 10 years or more. We had even talked to him on the phone. Never got to meet him.

This place for me, made "cyber friends' real. We've all developed pretty good friendships even tho we haven't met. I think we all cried Zan. Just wasn't right. We're supposed to live forever.
On the bright side ...............I suppose fast is better then slow and strung out. Wasn't that long ago he discovered he had cancer.
If I win the Powerball........... where do y'all want to meet up?
Jon likes Antarctica. .......just a thought.

I agree highup Probably have known of Nick for 20 odd years from flooring installer.com days and used to speak with Nick every couple of weeks. I have meet a few people at Surfaces over the years, Daris, Barry, Roland. Met Selva at Memphis or Nashville. Still hear from Selva every now and then
I got to get one more trip to Surfaces before I toss this flooring game away. Should make an effort to see that guy the Hippy on the Rocks fella. Even spoken to highup on the phone along with Rusty. Much make an effort again but with our time differences it makes it hard to work out a time. Nick would ring me when he had to get up in the night for his diabetics

Only one I met in person was Tandy Reeves. He died not long after. Could tell he was sick when I met him.

Yeah, still sucks that he went through chemo & then went so fast. But, I agree that it's better than lingering & suffering. That was one of the consolations with my father's death. I mean, he did have injuries & illnesses that he suffered from, but he died so suddenly before things could get even worse. I've had friends in the past who were doing well, got cancer, & died in a short amount of time. About a week after my father passed, an elderly friend (91-yrs-old) died of cancer he'd only had a short time. Another friend died within 3 weeks of finding out his throat cancer was back.

I wish I could travel- too much to take care of & too much of a pain. Every few years I take my mother out to Albuquerque to visit my sister, but it's a loong drive & it gets harder as my vision is starting to get worse & I can't stay awake as long.

When I was younger, I met up with some online friends from a Batman/DC comics forum at San Diego Comic Con (before it became all the rage & was hard to get tickets). I've lost touch with all of them since then. Also had a couple friends from that group pass away very young. I'd actually been snail-mailing a friend who had Muscular Dystrophy & we talked regularly on forums & in e-mail (but since I lived overseas phone calls weren't an option). He stopped replying & then another friend let me know he'd passed away. I think he was only 20 or 21.

Rusty mentioned a thread with an obituary for Nick but I haven't found it yet. Anyone got the link?

As an update, we are waiting for the parts to arrive-- I'm sure it will be delayed by the Memorial Day closures.
