Are you saying the inevitable compression of that 12 cent a foot crap led to a failure in the laminate itself?

we're not talking about compression retention failure - we're talking about using an additional layer of underlayment. The foam ones seems to fluffy and are not dense enough. Thus why USfloors approved an additional layer under their cork floors depending on the density. And why they used to make a very rigid one specifically as did Quickstep.
 
It sure wasn't floor muffler. That stuff is pretty good at what it does.

That stuff is light as a feather and if you work on top of it it compresses and does not regain it's fullness. Lest the stuff I've worked with.
