Painting foot moulding

I had to replace some foot moulding that was made of oak, but one section is the white composite stuff. (I have blue painter's tape on both sides). If I paint it it the oak color of the baseboards, will that work?
Any suggestions?

Paint will help. Even if it’s not a perfect match, just getting things in the same color range will make a big difference.

They make etching products to soften surfaces. I'd talk to someone at a real paint store.
