I got one but still not sure if I am happy as the battery has a short life but it does take good photos
Had a good sunset the other night but by the time I got the camera it had gone

Here's your cruise ship Jon. I think you are having fish tonight. :D
This at Cape Arago, then end of the local coastal road here. There's a bronze plaque here that says Sir Francis Drake dropped anchor here........ "Vile, thicke and sinking fogges" was his description of the area.

How do you reckon it will go around ice bergs? :)

That's what the raft is for. :D
In the camera manual, see if there are special adjustments for bright surfaces like ice and snow. Might be some info on line. I'll look and see.

Here's some gold from a nearby beach. I woulda scooped it up, but the sun was setting fast and I had to run off get some shots in. When I came back a few minutes later it was all gone.

We should be right on the ship as they have as they say The skilled team consists of naturalists, scientists, political and historical experts and other lecturers with decades of Antarctic experience, who will be sharing their knowledge, guidance and passion for Antarctica during the cruise and accompanying guests on excursions ashore to add valuable insights to the adventure. Award-winning photographers will also be on board to offer digital photography coaching, helping guests capture exciting wildlife images and the visual splendor of the White Continent. The expedition team will sail on the four 21- to 24-day voyages aboard Seabourn Quest starting in November of 2013. - See more at: http://blog.seabourn.com/world-clas...rctica-patagonia-voyages#sthash.sdqT2wnQ.dpuf
This is why I thought they might laugh when they saw my $200 camera so I had to get a better one. I am still trying to find out if we can get some of these experts photos. Might not need you and your camera :)

I never thought of that........... but not at all surprised that they have photographers on a trip like that. That's good to hear. Not just vistas, but get close ups too if you're actually setting foot on the frozen south.
Get autographs. ;)

This was taken about 140 miles down the coast and eastwards, up into the hills. I miss those drives into no man's land trying each weekend to get lost. I was never good at getting lost.
I hiked for 20 minutes to get to the bottom of a steep ravine because the steady noise of rushing water got the best of me. There wasn't a river on my map, but dog gone it, there had to be a pretty big creek down there with some waterfalls to make all that noise. Put on the backpack with my camera gear, slung the tripod over my shoulder and off I went, zig zagging my way down the hill. I wasn't on any sort of trail. The hike started off easy............ This was a grassy, 5 year old clear cut with lots of new trees growing on the hillside. It was noon and the sun was straight up. 2o minutes later as I neared the bottom, the brush got really thick and the last part of the hike was more like a drop off into this mysterious unknown river....... I was 30 feet from it, but still couldn't see it.
I found a hole through the brush and there it was in all it's glory.

.........it was a good 6 feet wide in some places, and well over a foot deep here and there with an occasional 3 foot tall 2 foot wide "waterfall" This is what was making all that noise.
I had hiked all this way down the hill, so I had to shoot something. Not sure what kind of tree root this was, but it sure was clean :D
The second shot has me wondering......... at first it looked like a hand reaching out of the water, but now I sea fish, a snake and a pig depending on the time of night, and whether its a week day or week end. :D
The little creek was so small and brushy, I really couldn't go up or down stream to see what other little treasures it had. I recall the area that I had climbed down into was probably less than 20 feet by 30 feet till I hit brush or the opposing hillside, and I wasn't packing a machete, so this was it.

The long trip back up the hill had me wondering if it was worth it. It was pretty steep, as are most of the hills in the area.
That's what I miss most about those little gold colored rolls of film. Dropping them off on a Monday, and eagerly awaiting their arrival on Thursday to see if I hit pay dirt from my weekend adventures. There were weekends when I walked and drove a lot, but never even took the camera out of the back pack. That was fun too.......... just being out there, somewhere.

Lay down on the ground in your back yard and find something............. it's there if ya look hard enough. Close ups are fun, but ya got to get down low to make the shot. You want your subject at eye level, not looking down at it. (That's lesson 1, no charge) :D

Well, we made it safe to the beach yesterday morning. I made my first ever attempt at star trail photography last night. Its rather boring and short, but I know what to do differently next time.

I also went to shades of the past in Pigeon Forge, TN before I went to the beach this week. There were probably close to 10,000 vintage cars. Here are some shots I took at the car show. I bet you can't guess what my favorite car of all time is ;-)
