A lot of old Plantation Houses W .

Yeah I've actually shot a wedding in Charleston before. It was gorgeous. This will be only the third time here I've had my camera. I really enjoy the street photography aspect of Charleston.

There is a local State park, known around the globe for it's flower gardens and in the winter, the hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights that are set up from November to January 1st.
The coastal bluff at this park also has another well known special event in the winter months. I have never discovered a way to predict the exact conditions that make this event happen. It's one spot where the waves will burst against the cliff edge to spectacular heights. Not every wave. Not every day, or every storm. Sometimes when the weather is calm and a storm has just passed. Like I said, unpredictable.
But when it happens.................... it's a WOW moment.

You know that I don't take people photos, but I do occasionally take seagull photos.
Upon reviewing this old image, I had forgotten the initial details of this moment.
I was at Shore Acres State park, slightly north of the old mansion's tennis court area. I was heading to the trail which continues North, along the coastal cliff edge. I stopped and was watching a guy and his wife/GF who were waiting for a wave burst. He was set up and had his camera ready. I set up too. These spectacular wave bursts can be few and far between. Most incoming waves look good, but fizzle out when they hit the cliff face. Usually, the previous wave will cancel out the next incoming wave. It's all about the wave timing.
Small wave bursts impress a lot of people here, but not me. I need the biggest and the bestus. I have seen the mediocre ones that barely rise to the cliff edge. Booooring!

We all speak of being in the right place at a moment in time. That day, I sure was .
Most people seeing this photo and being unfamiliar with this very special event, might be focused on the large tree and the photographers, and barely notice the large fuzzy 'growth' to the right assuming it's a tree or large bush structure. Well its H20 at it's finest moment. ..........and LOTs of it.
Right place, right time, and ready for the shot................. I was lucky as all get out on this one.
Remember I said that I was shooting the seagull....................... I lied. The seagull saw my camera and being a real ham, he wanted so desperately to get into the shot in a very dramatic way. He succeeded. :D

Here's another photo from one of the two best locations to view these wave bursts. I am guessing it's a good 100 feet from the cliff down to the water, so make a guess how high the wave reached? I don't know............ it was a real bigun, that's for sure.

Shutter speed lens and aperature on the first one............. wow, that is nice.
I couldn't begin to come close if I had the equipment........ we don't have breaking waves that long and pretty.
Last image..................... did they fire the mason? :D
That too......... very nice.

Thanks! The waves here break pretty long. And as far as the masons go, they must have been drunk lol
