JP you are exactly rite the install money is built into the price of the pad. they have the installer buy the pad and sell it to them for about 25% of what they charge the customer and that gives them plenty of money to pay for the install.

Well to be fair a 19X19 room is a little awkward to figure for carpet. You would need two 12X19s to do it (456 Sq.ft.). If it‘s say a 12” pattern match add another 12 sq.ft.. There would be about 5X20 in waste. Plenty to cover your step… If they’re telling you any more than 470 sq. ft. they would have some explaining to do…

Also I’m not sure what 79 refers to with the pad but if it’s sq. yds. It’s almost enough to do the room twice.

And yes, there’s no such thing as a free lunch….Or a free installation.

Do the math, Lowe’s doesn’t give away anything. I think they usually get you with the price of the padding.
