Doesn't seem like something that could JUST happen from leaving the lids off.

Something really crazy happened in the back of that minivan.

40 odd years ago the floors of our vans had particle board floors bolted to the metal floor of the vans. The tins of glue were tin in those days and when one hit the brakes the tin of glue would slide until it hit a bolt then tip over blowing the lid off. Once again usually in the first week of getting a brand new van. After that we would belt the bolt further down into the particle board. There is many a time I have had to hose out the back of a van :)
Once I had a brand new top of the range V8 Falcon station wagon and the 15 litre "milk" you used to mix the floor prep with developed a hole in the plastic container which I never noticed. When I got back to the wagon a couple of hours later there was this lake of white milk under the car. It had filled the back up with the milk including the back seat which was folded down. Got a fire hose and fired it into the back. The wagon dripped white milk and water for days. But it was under sealed :)

I don't remember anything like these from back East but where I live is a flood plain. So the streets have soft drainage "ditches" designed into them to assist with the water run off the few times that it does rain.

If you CROSS one of those going more than say 15-20MPH you'll bounce like crazy up and then down. I could see that splattering the glue back there if there were no lids or the lids were loose and just setting there.

Almost seems like he would have had to go back and forth a dozen times to get GLUE that splattered.
