When installing luxury vinyl, we had a fair bit of leveling to do. What I hadn't thought of, was the transition to the hardwood floor which is not level. I need to put in a transition strip that is 32" in length and which the luxury vinyl is almost 1/4" higher than the hardwood at one end and less than 1/16" higher at the other end. I'm guessing that I need some sort of flexible transition strip. Any advice would be appreciated. Btw: the gap is nearly one inch wide at the widest point.

That’s a tough one. You can install a transition strip between the two different floor coverings but it will twist to meet the unevenness of both surfaces. Prolly look like dookie but whatcha gonna do at this point? Glue it down then weight it for 24 hours.

Option 2 would be to make a custom transition piece out of wood or to modify an existing transition piece. Don’t know your skill level so that may or may not be an option.

I think I would find a wood transition strip that matches your hardwoods and modify it to work. Something like a hard surface reducer that will lap over to top of the LVP and sit on top of the hardwoods. (I’m assuming the LVP is the higher of the two surfaces?). You would taper the hardwood touching side of the transition strip.

I’m imagining doing it myself in my head and I think it would be pretty easy to do if you were able to come up with an appropriate jig to run the transition strip through a saw to make a nice taper. If I didn’t feel comfortable about going that route you might could scribe a line on the uneven side and palm sand up to it.
