The good news is the trees can be saved. The bad news is, its going to cost over $7k. But its still less than I thought. I was expecting $15k.

And I'm going to have to distract my cow when they come out, because she decided that the guy who did the assessment looked fun to play with and she got between him and his truck and started hopping up and down and swinging her head. I had to step in front of her and throw my arms in the air and say "Baby, stop that!" The guy thought she was mad until I explained she just wanted to play. I led her away and gave her food so he could finish examining the trees.

Funny you should mention planted trees. My late elderly friend started harping about how 50 years before his wife had planted a magnolia tree next to the house and then a storm shook it and the roots broke a gas line. She explained that she had thought it was just a bush and not a tree when she planted it. But he was griping about something from 50 years ago. LOL. (I have to say, that was the only time anyone from the city came out so fast-- when I called to say I smelled a gas leak outside).

Jon, in this case, some idiots built a house near some oak trees. The closest one is about 400 years old. The other one is maybe 200.
To give a better idea of the tree, this is my 6'3" brother in front of the smaller of the two oak trees at my house.

Tree people estimated it would be over $7k to remove the fallen branch, trim up and treat the smaller tree and also trim the branches on the larger one (branches that are hanging over the house and touching the roof). It would be another $3.5k to get the fallen tree off of the now mostly-crushed barn. Ugh.

The tree thing got pushed aside because my friend nearly died in a car accident the other day. He just got home yesterday afternoon and I went to go help out and sit with him a bit. My brother is sitting with him now and I'll probably come by and visit him tomorrow and give moral support. He's in a neck brace and cast on his left arm. Lucky to be alive and not paralyzed.

Meanwhile, anyone know how to get maple syrup out of carpet? When I wasn't home a bottle of maple syrup got knocked down, somehow the cap got opened and the entire effing bottle dumped onto the carpet.

zannej you aren't having a good Easter are you with car accidents and trees
I think I will stick with my trees as your ones would scare the hell out of me every time the wind blew. Those limbs are huge
I asked the guy who I buy firewood off if he wanted to take my trees for free and sell them as firewood. He didn't want to touch them as they are to close to the house and would cost a fortune getting cranes in

Yeah, I think the arborists I'm hiring are estimating $4.7k to bring in the cranes and get the branches on the one hanging over my house. I'll have to get pics of that one later. You can't see much of my house from google earth because the tree branches are like an umbrella.

Sometimes I watch things like House Hunters and the people are all happy about having trees near their houses and I keep thinking "if they fall on your house, you won't like it". I got into a debate with someone on Houzz over a treehouse someone built in their yard. It was damaging the tree and was going to result in the tree falling apart-- and it was close enough to the house to hit it.

Although at least its not as expensive as my poor friend's helicopter ride (to get him to the hospital after they used the jaws of life to pry him out of the truck). I think that runs around $25k and he doesn't have insurance.

Looked at our house on Google

Notice the new concrete to the right? Thats there cause our tree blew up the neighbours drive. Never got a bill though
At least here zannej if anybody gets hurt our ACC pays for any injures, no fault system, and one even gets 80% of their pay after the first week. Even overseas visitors will get fixed up by our hospitals for no cost which a lot of Kiwis think stinks as Kiwis have to have insurance to cover medical mishaps if we go overseas but the overseas visitors coming here are covered by our system It don't work two ways :)

I have also my mothers house at Greenhithe which is behind these trees but if you look at the map you will see one would have a great view if it wasn't for the trees
When the tenant shifts out it gets sold
havasu I have a great deal for you if you are still house looking, beach just down the road, 30 minutes from the city,no hurricanes, no tornados, no animals which kill you etc etc :)

Jon, looks like a beautiful area. I went to an international high school in Singapore and there were a few kiwis. One of them was always bantering with the Aussies back and forth. There were a lot of jokes made about their involvement with sheep.

T.

zannej I think its much like you guys and the Canadians with the banter excet the Aussies say they "own" products and people whereas they came from NZ
And thats the truth because I know
I am a Kiwi :)
Here is one of the biggest ones in which the Aussies reckon Phar Lap is their horse
The horse was born in NZ

I re-made a carpet seam today.
The carpet was installed in December, and apparently the seam didn't "blend in after a while" like the installer told them it would. :D

Wow, imagine that.

It wasn't nylon................. so maybe if it had more time to compact it would have "blended" just like he said. :D
I guess he made it out the door, which was the important part. There's a seam on each side of the wood stove hearth. Both are traffic areas. It took longer than I thought, so I still have the other side to do at another time.
I'm not sure why he didn't put the seam on the opposite wall which would be 75% covered with furniture. The fill is about 4 feet wide.

Salesman or customer may have specified where they wanted the seam.

Around these here parts, that happens in about 3 jobs per 1000. (knowbody cares to bring up the subject)
Installers usually put the seams where they want them.
That said, a caring installer will make the best decision.
Seams are invisible anyway, why bring it up and lose a sale. :D

The customer I am working for created and has owned a local family restaurant for 45 years.
Yesterday's break consisted of chocolate/peanut butter cream pie, with coffee, and today it was coconut cream pie and coffee.
I told her about my "will work for food" signature on the forum.
