$3.99/gallon here but that is before tax. It cost over $70 to fill my tank.
Yesterday I woke up to the power going out immediately followed by a loud crack of thunder. I had to go stand outside in the rain to get cell signal (landline wouldn't work) to call the power company's automated crap to report the outage. Puppies refused to go out and shat all over the floor. Unjammed the float lever. Went and bundled up bc it was cold and napped until power came back on hours later. got up and cleared trash off the kitchen table. It had been sitting there for months & my brother refused to take it out. Found he'd left a bag of Epson salt on the table and it had gotten ripped over and spilled. Some of it came up but I need a scraper bc some of it is stuck on there.
Moved cat food bowls to the table (because both puppies have figured out how to get in through the back door and ate all the cat food). My cats were not happy. Let the puppies out during a lull in the rain. They came right back inside and I found them on the kitchen table eating the cat food and knocking the bowls on the floor. I had to put them back in the front room. They even climbed up and got to Temjin and Namir's food on the top shelf of their kitty condo.
Took Mom to Lowes to see about pricing on custom order windows (wanted one with tempered glass for inside the shower). Employee said it would be $500 and would take months. She suggested getting the window on sale on the website for under $100 and putting security film on it as it would be way cheaper. Very nice lady and very helpful at least. Ended up ordering the windows online as its the last day of the sale. Got one for laundry room and another for the guest bathroom. If I order the 8mil film off Amazon I can put it on inside and outside (don't care if it is pretty) since its double-pane glass with argon. I'll probably add another layer of protection for the window in the bathroom since it will be in a shower. (I saw some film that advertised as 12mil but customer reviews said they had false advertising- it was 4mil and didn't come in the right sizes-- someone paid like $126 for 50' and only got 10' and said it was way thinner than another product that was 8mil). I think I will install the film before installing the windows. I wonder if I can find a competent local handyman that knows how to install replacement windows properly. Gonna need z-flashing on top, pull back vinyl siding a bit, and do some flashing tape. Also going to order some pvc boards for the window sills instead of having wood.
Anyway, after Lowes I took Mom to get her booster shot at samsclub bc I saw they take walkins. She was worried it would take a long time. Longest it took was for her to fill out the paperwork. They had her info and filled out her vaccine card quickly. Took less than 2 min once she handed over the paperwork-- and that includes her going in, getting the shot, and coming out. She said she didn't even feel it. I saw they also do Shingles vaccines so that may be something for her to keep in mind a few weeks from now.
I think I have a temporary solution for my float lever jamming situation (I had to unjam it 3x yesterday). So, I have a board from a broken wooden gate (tree fell on it). Pressure treated lumber. I noticed that I have a few of the old jet pump pressure switches lying around and they have this mounting bracket
I found that the nut on the bottom fits inside the PVC mounting pipe fairly snugly and it stays put. My plan is to remove the bracket from the switch, mount it to the underside of a piece of the board to have a horizontal shelf. Cut some pieces to go vertically on either end of the horizontal board to stabilize it, and then mount the float switch toward one end of the board close enough for the rod to fit in the hole on the lever without having to go at an angle of any sort. At a later point (if need be) I can add a clear plastic box over the switch (since the cover won't fit back on it) and have holes for the wires and one for the rod (but making sure it is high enough up that the nuts on the rod will never get stuck). It would protect things from touching exposed wires and keep water drips off of the switch (I had to patch the roof with flex tape to prevent drips from holes over the current spot).
