....I borrowed the shops Leica/Disto D810 Lazer to do the measuring and because I wanted to compare it to my $30 unit.
Thats most of what my new job is now, using the $100 Leica, and Measure mobile software on a Ipad. Never used either before, been a steep learning curve. The shop has designers at each of the 2 shops, I do thier measures. So far its going ok, The sales manager asked me to stop talking with the customers, because they then ask questions of the sales staff they dont' know the answers to. More of their problem then mine, lol. Not completely off my knees, doing about 500 sq ft of 3/4' solid, in 2 bedrooms, started yesterday and at the end of the day, all I could think about was how if it had been 5" wood, Id be done.

That’s because what carpet wants to beee 🐝 stung by the stinger 🦂 😜
And what wood floor wants to be stung and ruined especially hardwood. Makes a mess of pencil point/ plushes. I had to repair 92 holes in a pencil point plush , that was done by my stepson as we did use them at the time. Threw it out after that. Plus all the repairs where it destroyed OSB and particle board floors. The only place they were justified to use was in the trailer house industry. The trailers even had install instructions with a picture of one.. CRI says "NO" to them.

Worst tool ever invented for carpet.
The room is 19 by 40. I took enough poles....
....the says to myself.... This carpet is 20 years old, faded, and it's just a 9 by 19 foot area that needed new pad and stretched back in. They installed new plywood, replacing the particle board because of a leak.
I took the stinger back to the warehouse. I don't want temptation staring me in the eye.
This job is what stingers were made for. I wasn't moving all this stuff to set up tubes.
I used tubes to go widthwise.

Old dense carpet that rarely gets walked on. 1st time I ever touched a stinger was this restretch. It has plywood, so no puffy spots. I kept checking but no humps, bumps or loose carpet pile. Turned out great. I even got 3/4 to an inch of stretch.

That measuring software draws out the house when you're done? Does it total up the carpet required and show where carpet seams will be located?
Did this one on poster board. I use a triangular engineer scale. It gets me close enough so a can reverse check in case I forgot to write down a measurement. I came up with 505' of carpet and 1500+ ft of base. This job took a few minutes to draw up. 😉

Putting crap carpet in a crap apt, that will last 3 months, why not?

No argument from me. I’m pro stinger. It’s a business decision and I’ll tell you my justification.

You ever notice when you’re buyin something and suddenly it’s in a smaller package but you’re still paying the same price. Gatorade was, and some still are, a 32 oz bottle. There’s 28 oz bottles out there selling for the same price. Same thing happened to my labor. I’m still charging you the same price but you’re just getting a little bit less for that same price. Nothing personal, it’s just business. i got spreadsheets and I gots to make my money just like everybody else.

This poses a serious question. Why is it acceptable for corporations and big businesses to F you over but when I do the same thing I’m a turd? What, I got numbers to turn just like everybody else. I’m running a (successful/ profitable) business just like everybody else. I don’t give bad installations but I’m also not going to waste my time on something that obviously isn’t that important. If you don’t care chances it prolly ain’t that important, such as an apartment or some cracker box new construction. Break out the stinger and let’s do this cus I got **** to do later.

I used the stinger. Guess how many call backs I had from 1992 when I moved back to my hometown and retirement about 2016. I had two. One was a complaint on a seam coming apart, only it was a rolling chair where the steel castors cut the carpet 3 feet from a seam. The other was wrinkles. This was a carpet that had something wrong with the backing. I warned them when I installed it. I power stretched it 3 times in a year and got around 2 inches each time. It was the store owners house. After the 3rd time they disposed of it. The installer who put in the rest of the roll in another house had the same issue.

It was crapet from Shaw.

I've never used an Ipad before either, but my 7yr grand daughter walked me thru the basics. Lol. It seems slower then a tape measure and a pad of paper, but it does have advantages. When you measure for 1 type of flooring, and they change up. You can set the software to a given amount of waste, pattern match, etc. It figures for base as well. The owners vision is to keep salespeople inside selling, and me driving and doing the take off for them. Plus, printing out the floorplan helps them see how and what I figured for trim and transitions. Also, a couple photos of each section so they can see what I do.

Yesterday..... Where do you start?
Left side of LR is wall to wall fireplace and hearth. Hearth has a 14 inchish overhang. The left lower (A) and left upper (B) distances to the wall behind the fireplace are different. Takes a lot of figuring to determine starting and ending points.
The front 3 walls are angled 60 degrees and are all windows. There's a 10' sliding glass door on the third angle.
There's a 14 foot hall at the bottom of the drawing.
Angles angles everywhere. Max width is less than 35 feet. My seams will go towards the windows. The current seam runs parallel, about 5 feet out from the windows.
