Cost of living is far less here than in a big city, but I made a higher per yard fee than I did in KC. when I first moved here. I always charged more than everyone else and still turned down work. In my 40 years of installing here, I never had a call back that was my fault. I did many repairs of other guys work. I only had one job that did not pay me.
I installed one of those awful kitchen carpets. When I pulled out the stove, fire shot out of the outlet. The tenant was a woman in a wheel chair so I did not plug the stove back in, I was afraid of a fire, Landlord refused to pay me for the installation because of that. Electrician who went into to fix it, never got paid either.
Did several free installation jobs and a bunch of free repairs.
Worked by myself for the last 10 years. Had 4 apt complexes and several house flippers.

Been working alone for the last 10 years myself. I have a couple of furniture movers that can get my big carpets in when needed. Had one of my coating jobs that I did last year blow off this year. Found a Westcoat system that could fix it and got to work with a couple of guys fixing it. Had to scarify the products off and start new. They might want me to help them in the future as much as I helped.

Took a cruise today. First start in 2 years.
They don't make engines with the chunkity chunk sound anymore.
This probably has 375hp, the new 800hp engines have a gurgle sound instead of chunkity chunk.
I like the latter. This is a 70 1/2 Z28. Last of the 11.2/1 compression.
In 1972 I think everything dropped to 8 or 8.5 compressionnso that the earth wouldn't be on fire and like we're all gonna die soon. 😁
Anyway, had a 10 mile cruise and some fresh air.....
.....less fresh for the people behind us, but hey........ nostalgia trump's hybrid cars any day, ......every day.
I wished I looked this good when I was 52 1/2
😁

Coatings outdoors would scare me to death. I know there's good stuff out there, but the risk...
.....call me chicken little.

I waited for the thunder to stop and rain to let up enough so I could go to the store. I'll have to get feed for the cow later. She was getting in the way when I was trying to back the truck out. I really need to find a better setup where I can feed the cows under shelter where it won't rain on their food, but they broke the trough thingy with cover that my dad built (well, the horned cow broke it). Napped after unloading stuff and then got up and cooked for Mom. I'm still tired but legs have been cramping. Not taking enough potassium and magnesium.

My brother and grandfather put some thick plush carpet on the floor walls and ceiling of the master bedroom for a local lumber mill owner. He said they didn't carpet the door or the windows.
That would have been around 197 4 if I had to guess. They cut the carpet into 16 inch or 2 ft wide strips and glued it. Sounds like a nightmare.

Been using the same one for about 8 years now. No balls have fallen yet.
They will, you just aren't old enough yet.

Did all the basement walls in a church. Lucky though. Builder knew flooring. He set a 2 x 4 in the concrete at the top, so we could staple the carpet up to help hold it while the glue dried.
Did a game room too, you could see pool ball dents in the old walls.

Donuts don’t kill people, people kill people.
Not with donuts, that's called suicide.....
.....long-term suicide.
... I think that's what I'm doing. If it's not the donuts it's the ding dongs or the 3 lb fudge cake that they sell for 3 and 1/2 bucks at Fred Meyer because it's "day old"
........If you left one of those fudge cakes on a shelf for two weeks it'll be just fine.
Unless your brother found it on the shelf. 😁
If I'm going to do myself in, this is the ultimate method. Go out happy with frosting on your chin.

I began a carpet restoration today.
It was flawed from day one which was about 2 months ago. I get to be Mr fix It. I need to have a t-shirt made, "I can fix that"
....... I'm sure that one's trademarked already 🥴
Anyway, what do you do when a job is completed and the customer comes in two days later nearly crying and tells you how horrible the job looks?
She's told whatever is wrong will be fixed.
A couple weeks later she comes in with a baggie containing four razor blades and a bunch of pieces of padding with staples sticking out of them. The razor blades were found by the lady's grandson and were laying on the floor in a large closet.
The clumps of padding with staples embedded in them came from the gravel in the driveway.
This was an entire upstairs of the home and they didn't vacuum so there was carpet fuzzies in the air as they worked on all the way down the stairs which had not been done yet and all the way out to the driveway.
Anyway I've got a few days ahead of me we're doing the entire job with the same carpet. Not replacing the carpet just fixing the carpet issues.
Day one, this seam sucks.
.....well it sucked but it doesn't now.
Before I left this afternoon I also took apart the doorway seam from this area above the stairs leading into a master bedroom.
I'm thinking the same installer that did the carpet seem did the padding seam. Why is it such a big thing to put a saddle seam in doorways? Is it that much faster?
Do you really save that much padding?
Anyway it's the whole upstairs of a house and I got my feet wet today. I think I can polish this turd.
If you look at the image with the blue tape, then look at the image where I'd remove the tape, that's the same seam. That's actually how wide the gap was.
On the bright side, seemed disassembly is easy because he did use the cool glide and I was totally blown away.
The seams were also thermally sealed which also blew me away. No one in the universe seals seams..... OK, 10 people and I haven't met the rest yet 😁
That said, he applied way too much Thermo seemed sealer which added to the problems.
Luckily, I was able to trim 1/8 of an inch off of each side of the seam with my scissors and put it back together.
I'd show you how well it turned out but then..... you know how the saying goes, then I'd have to kill you. 😁
Anyway have been dreading this large upstairs repair which involves restretching and trimming every single wall including the five large closets.
But I saw today told me that this is possible so my worrying is all about nothing. From hear on out, it will be just going through the motions.

Went out to dinner with the tennis boys tonight. ( 6 total ) We’ve been playing together for over 20 years and this was kinda a celebration. One guy retired and moved to Fl. Being away for 2 years. Another senior member ( 70 ish ) was out of commission for quite some time with health problems, but made a full recovery, So much that I bet he will out perform me this season.

Anyway, as we were leaving the heavens opened up and gave us much needed rain. I ran to the truck, grabbed my golf umbrella and came back to escort the boyz one by one to their cars, but they wisely stayed inside, waiting it out. Meanwhile 5 hot 20 something year old ‘ young ladies’ are now standing outside under the small overhang 🤪…… So I escorted them, making sure I got real close in the process 🥹 ( dirty old helpful man 😇 ) No ! I did not touch their hair, 😉

Well guess what happened then ? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Other patrons thought I worked there and started asking me to escort them, so I did and made 10 bucks in tips 🤣 leaving the tennis boyz on there own.

Umbrella boy out !
