We're supposed to have a warm one today. Right now theirs frost on my neighbors roof, just like each day for the past couple of weeks, but forecast says 68 today.
Oregon and California have had very little rain in the past year. Locally, here on the coast we get about 68 inches on average. I think so far this year, we've only had about 27. Close to if not a record. Here is something I don't ever recall seeing in January. National weather service has issued a fire danger warning because of the dry winter and low humidity levels:
CAZ280-ORZ615-618-619-242000-
/O.CON.KMFR.FW.W.0001.000000T0000Z-140124T2000Z/
WESTERN KLAMATH NATIONAL FOREST-SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON COAST-
SOUTHERN OREGON COAST-WESTERN ROGUE RIVER-
SISKIYOU NATIONAL FOREST-
442 AM PST FRI JAN 24 2014

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON PST TODAY FOR
COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES FOR
FIRE WEATHER ZONE 618...

* AFFECTED AREA: FIRE WEATHER ZONE 618

* WIND...EAST WINDS 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH POSSIBLE.

* HUMIDITY...MAXIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITIES OF 20 TO 30 PERCENT.

* IMPACTS...THE COMBINATION OF DRY CONDITIONS...GUSTY EAST
WINDS...AND LOW HUMIDITY WILL CREATE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS WHERE ANY NEW IGNITIONS COULD EXPERIENCE RAPID
FIRE GROWTH.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. THESE CONDITIONS WILL
CONTRIBUTE TO EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR.

Around zero here last night with 30-40 mph winds, up to 37 today with the same winds. 40s and windy tomorrow, 50s and windy Sunday. back around zero, Monday and Tuesday.

We've only had 1/4 inch of rain for this month of January. Only 3 1/2 total since winter started. All the ski resorts are dirt and the lakes are below 1/2 full. Not looking good at all. If this keeps up, there will be a nasty fire season this year.

We already got some fires going today. Sounds like they were all from last fall's forest slash burns that have reignited because of the winds and lack of rainfall this winter. Usually after they do burning in the late fall, the winter rains and snow finish putting out any remaining hot spots. Not this year. Same with the ski resorts up here Darol.

According to a network forecaster, the jet stream should shift back to the north in a week to 10 days. Our local forecaster is predicting ice storms when that happens, so who knows?

I'm still waiting for someone to make it so a person can put 100 smiley icons on a reply. Sometimes 4 just doesn't look seem like enough. :D:D:D:D

Go ahead and try, just no broken bones, OK? :D

On the weather subject, we hit 75 yesterday. Much warmer than most of the state. In Oregon, usually the coast isn't the warmest place to be. Today might get close to 70. After this, it's going to cool a little and maybe get a few days of drizzle or rain. Lows forecast are closer to 40, which is getting better than the frosty mornings we've been experiencing. I'll try to send some of this eastward.
