What are vinyl installations rates in your area? With the vinyl-backed vinyl, it takes very little skill to install. Most of it here is DIY.
It is nothing like installing the old $50 yd felt-backed Armstrong Solarian.

I get $5 a yard on the rare occasion that I install anything like Flexitec.
Have not seen in felt-backed in years.

I haven't done a vinyl install in .........6 months or more? I don't recall. I remember doing one just before Christmas last year. I'm hourly or just toss out a price. For me, yardage is stupid for vinyl. (stupid for carpet too, but that's another topic):D

Yeah, the PREP is everything and it's just not predicable. For the clients my boss serves that demand a flat price your eyes would bleed if I gave you those rates. The established clients essentially pay worst case scenario prices so we really never have to battle for change orders. Just get it done on THEIR time frame-------no excuses. Heaven and earth moves when the worst case scenarios actually arrive and we pull crews off other projects and make it happen.

It's getting to be less and less as a percentage of the work where it's actually a low bid project that I have to battle tooth and nail for a change order.

But those ugly situations still arise. I've been charged with teaching the intricacies of negotiating change orders with one of our recently "turned out" apprentices.......now Journeyman..........suddenly a Foreman. We taught him how to install. That's the easy part. He's running a half a million dollar job and the GC is eating his lunch. NOT HIS FAULT but the boss still chewed his ass out. So I get to play good cop..............explaining to him the complexities of the Art of the Deal.

He's a good kid. I think he'll get it. But one never knows.
