A fire, and all the phone lines were down. AT&T had an outage for 6 hours, so they couldn't call the fire dept. He had to drive 5 miles to get them.

Great photos. That family photo was very creative. Might make a great mantle piece, or I suppose even a Christmas card.
How long was the star trail image? 15 minutes? What camera? I didn't think you could take long time images like that with digital cameras.

You can take images as long as you want with digital cameras as long as the battery doesn't die. That image was 89, 30 second exposures stacked on top of eachother.
