I don’t think anyone that has used pro knees would be happy or comfortable going back to the knee pro style pads.
I’m 6’ 6” tall and I just weighed in 280# at my boxing gym. Pro knees saved my knees. They distribute your weight throughout your lower legs to take the weight off your knees. Not saying the knee pro’s are bad. Just think it would be like going from a Cadillac to a horse & buggy for someone that uses pro knees.

I always wondered had I worn them the last 5-10 years if I might have made it to 65 as sort of planned. I teased the guys who wore them right up to the end------even when nearly everyone in the union was wearing them. Those last few months when I was trying to make a comeback I admitted to them------especially the kids (apprentices of all ages) that they SHOULD wear them. It's kind of obvious.

On the same note all the largest general contractors, unions and apprentice programs REQUIRE gloves be worn at all times. There are actually very few things that you cant do with the gloves one. So it's really ANOTHER issue of learning and adapting to improvements in technology. I just had so many years wearing MY kneepads and working with bare hands I refused to adapt. That was stupid. It's easier now with my head out of the game to realize some very stupid things I was hellbent on doing.

I used to make fun of guys that wore Pro Knees as well but I changed my mind one day and never looked back.

Pro Knees make a very noticeable difference. When you put them on and get to it it’s like working on a bed of pillows all day long. Then at the end of the day when the needle on the ol hurt meter is starting to move, you hurt less. The older you are the more significant that amount of less is.

I was wearing something like highup wears, with gel, and got water on the knee. That was several years ago. Switched to pro knees and never have had an issue.
Ice hockey goalie kneepads are similar. Takes the weight off the knee and distributes it along the whole lower leg.
