Big score at Habitat Restore.
The pieces of this waether station were inside of a cardboard box and the instructions and all the paraphernalia that came with it were in the box too. It said "not tested"
If you buy anything electronic or a motor or a drill or whatever if the restore people plug it in and test it they'll put the word "tested" on the box letting you know that it functions.
This one said not tested and there was a handful of pieces in the box so for a $20 chance I went ahead and grabbed it.
Got it home took all the parts out of the box. The rain gauge part of the unit was still in its plastic factory pouch. So were the u-bolts that you use to connect the outdoor unit to a mast. A little plastic cup that measures the wind speed was in the box too. Everything is there including all the instructions. You can download an app to connect it to your phone to too.
The little rubber feet on a peel and stick card have never been installed on the base console yet.
The sucker is brand new. 😁

....you know the rest. 😁

Nice score. I’ve been lookin at a few different weather stations but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

I may have asked before, but what is marmoleum?

I know linoleum is made with linseed oil.

The vinyl sheet in my laundry room is cut with a border along the wall like that. I was supposed to just be rolled up the wall but they messed it up-- used the wrong sheet and had a seam in the middle. It didn't last long, but it was cheap stuff anyway.

I slept late and went to samsclub then to walmart to pick up prescriptions. Kitties have all been fed and its time for my nap.

Linoleum made by Forbo. Good stuff. Armstrong also makes linoleum, Marmorette. I like it a little better because they have taller drying ovens so there are no stove bars in their products.
I did not know that. I figured they were all about the same.
That said I probably installed linoleum less than 10 times since 1975. I think only one was a coved job in a bathroom. I hate covework. It comes up so rarely that every job feels like you're doing it for the first time.

When you get vinyl or linoleum rolled up the wall called coving or self-coving, it gets spendy very, very fast. It's not the type of work for a novice......
... Hell, it's not a job for a seasoned Pro. It's a job for a Super Jon! 🕺

I wanted one too for a long time. Stop by your local Habitat ReStore. They just might have a brand new one sitting in a cardboard box waitin for ya. 😁
Crap once I got it home and saw all the instructions and documentation in perfect order not even creased or dinged up.... The instruction booklets for the outdoor unit and the indoor unit look like no one's ever even fingered through them. I have never had a luckier day, not even close.
Once I eventually get this thing set up somewhere I'll give you some feedback on how well it works.
So far I just laying on top of the carport and it's giving me feedback. It feels like a nice unit.
The indoor control unit uses three C batteries and it also has a plug-in connection. If you don't want to use the plug-in connection it says the batteries will last approximately 9 months.
You set your latitude, longitude, elevation, time, time zone and you're good to go.
I haven't checked the instructions enough to know what needs to be done to set it up for Wi-Fi but I know there's a device you can buy to set it up for use on the internet if you want to tell everybody the weather conditions at your house.
Quite a few years ago I bought a $5 unit from lacrosse at the salvation army thrift store. Just to control unit with no outdoor bits and pieces. I figured maybe I could buy those later.
Come to find out that you needed to buy a subscription to Lacrosse to use the damn thing. I ain't paying no monthly charge to find out what the weather is outside my door. 😁
I'm betting that there's a lacrosse player born every minute. 😉

Pictures don't always do a lot of Justice but I forgot to take pictures of my finished stairway. It's an hour away and I asked the customer to take two photos at different angles, replicating the same angles as before I visited this job site for the first time. I doubt if it shows much from old to new because of the carpet she chose.
In person, there's a considerable difference.
The risers and the treads were done separately and I did the same.
Here's an additional shot showing how some of the riserers fit under the the bullnose.
The way the curved lower step was done was humorous. It definitely didn't need it perfection because the riser is only four and three quarters inches off the floor, a tight area to deal with.

I was really happy the way the mitered corners next to the spindles turned out. Doing the risers separately has advantages and disadvantages. In this case the spindles were so tight together the only way I could imagine this job is doing the tread and the riser separately.
I did the riser separately and I also did it slightly different than the original installation. Call me original installation, the carpet was wrapped around onto the skirting and stapled flat. It was not turned under to eliminate exposed edges which kind of surprised me.
I made a change to bulk up the back of the stair tread which allowed me to make the riser pieces able to be folded under.
That's another situation where hot glue comes in to place. I made an even fold of all the steps. I squared up my material, and put a light line down one edge at 1 and 1/2 in.
Next, I cut off 16 strips of carpet to make up the risers.
Each piece had a line marked on it at 1 and 1/2 inches. While cutting these strips to make up the risers, I had my hot glue gun plugged in.
Politic news 10 or 15 seconds to squirt some hot glue and fold one end of the carpet over them hold it flat for 15 seconds so the blue would set up hot gluingly ends and folded them over seems like a waste of time to some.
If you had to manually sold those edges over and try and keep them neat and even as you attack them in place........
..... You would have lost your ass time wise. This little production setup of folding the edges under using hot glue made a perfect edge that made positioning each piece extremely easy. If you have rolled under, each of the 16 stairs and tried to make them all the same it would have been much more difficult.
Anyway the job turned out super and Lady is very happy and that's all I care about.
In the lowest pictures you can see a bit of hot glue and a black line from a felt marker which guided the folded edge into place. It's consistent and quick. Anyway it turned out super nice and I'm happy
.....and they're happy....
...and Joe Biden isn't but sometimes I just don't care. 😁

Highup, I remember seeing some places where the vinyl was rolled up the wall (cut at an angle in the corner to be able to fold in there) and that was what we wanted. Our installer didn't tell us that was difficult so we didn't realize it was hard. I almost got that effect on one side in my bathroom. LOL. doing two sides probably wouldn't be so bad, but all 4 sides would not be fun.

The carpet on the stairs looks very well done! My sister has high pile carpet with thick padding on her stairs. She has fairly tall steps too. I remember getting there and having to climb those stairs after 20 hours of driving. My legs did not cooperate. I think I ended up half-crawling up the stairs instead. I will say that carpeted stairs are super fun for sliding down on a cardboard box. We also used to stuff a sleeping bag with pillows and ride it down the stairs. LOL.

Got woken up around 6am by my brother. Best friend was in the ER for kidney stones and his gf was not able to stay awake to drive him. She literally fell asleep while on the phone with my brother. So we went to go pick him up when he was released. Pharmacy didn't open until 9am and we knew he'd fall asleep and not wake up until after it closed if we didn't stay with him. I curled up on his couch to try to nap. Kept hearing the heating portion of the AC unit kick on and off every few minutes though. Around 8:40 they said they wanted to go to Walmart to get cranberry juice. So we got the stuff and after waiting in line and so forth we went to the pharmacy. Pain meds had worn off and friend was almost in tears. Had to wait another 10min for them to fill it. He called the doctor to see if he could get an urgent appointment. They could see him at 10:15. So, back to his house where I curled up on the couch (and set an alarm for 10:10 - doctor's office was like 3min away). Friend put a pillow and a heating pad on the floor, laid on it and covered his face with his jacket. I woke him up when my alarm went off and we took hi there. Dropped him off and swung by the post office. Came back home to dissect two rotisserie chickens we'd gotten at Walmart, spent some time in the front room petting the kitties who were so desperate for attention they were climbing the doors and screaming at me. Napped until about 30min ago when mo wanted food. I'm about to take a nap. Decided I'll do early voting tomorrow instead. Body does not like me today.

Doing some AAE (African American Engineering) this morning. Door pull cable either broke or came loose on my van. Not in the mood to take the door apart. So I tied a rope to the inside door handle and ran it across to the passenger side, behind the seats to give leverage. When I pull the rope, the driver side door unlocks and opens.

The strange thing is that's a pretty cool fix. I bet you'd be surprised that the number of people that would even think that up let alone be able to do it. MacGyver thinking saves the day.

The funny thing happened last night while I was watching my new to me Davis instruments weather instrument. it's been a little breezy and rainy so I finally have a chance to use it. I could hear outside that it started raining very hard. I looked at the screen and it said "raining cats and dogs" 😁

Today I went to home depot to pick out a paint to "match the existing paint"
I think I nailed it.... what do you think?

I don't trust the colors that show up on my phone. Ever so slightly then the dark side but then again dark is cozy right? I think a lot of rooms look really nice with colors like that maybe even with a teensy bit of brown in it. Then again I have no clue as to what the color looks like in person. Just cuz I saw it on the internet doesn't make it true. 😁

We went with it. Me and the wife a long time ago decided when paint turns out s lot different in the wall than we thought in store, we assume it is fate.... or something and just go for broke. I like it in the end. Its very cozy.
