Nice score. I’ve been lookin at a few different weather stations but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
I kinda like this one, but there are two small issues.
For $20, I'm not really complaining. 😉
Bottom left there is a graph with little dots. The dots fit within a grid/graph and represent time and amounts. The graph displays the temperature, wind, humidity, barometric pressure, or the rain.
If you click on any one of those, the graph shows little dots and they represent how high it went and how low it went.
The graph has no numbers as to the time period that its recording and it has no reference in height to the actual wind speed or the rain amounts or the temperature.
You simply look at the graph and know that the dots went up steeply or if they went up and down so it really just shows the trend.
I can see why they don't make the graph show and display actual numbers. It's because the graph scale would have to change each time the rainfall amount or the wind intensify or dramatically increased. The graph would have to get bigger and smaller and display numbers accordingly.
I'm betting expensive weather stations might do this.
Right now the graph is showing 2 to 15 mph over the last 24 hours. The highest dot on the graph is 3/4 of the way up the graph.
If a storm came in and the wind speed increased to 45 with a 60 MPH gust, the graph would have to totally change to accommodate the new results.
My second gripe for blowing $20 on this unit...... 😁 Is that the wind direction shows north south east and west but the compass is not marked off in degrees.
The degrees are shown or should I say the wind direction is shown in degrees in another portion of the screen.
The unit shows the wind direction currently, the current wind speed, the wind over different periods of time and the peak gust. Does the same sort of thing with rainfall.
The screen is monotone with a greenish background and the graphics are black. It does have a backlight in a nice pleasant orange color. You can click and leave that on steady. What I've done that I noticed that the inside temperature goes up a couple of degrees because the screen must get a little bit warmer.
It shows the moon phase, sunrise, sunset and shows whether it's going to be cloudy or rainy.
I suppose if you bought one for nearly $300 it might be worth it during times when you have interesting weather.
It keeps track of annual rainfall monthly rainfall and daily rainfall so you can keep track of that kind of stuff too.
If it's not windy or rainy then its pretty much an indoor outdoor thermometer that shows a barometric pressure.
Did I mention that I paid $20 for it 😁
Okay that's not totally true. There's a special size lithium battery that goes in the outside unit. That cost about 9 bucks. I had to buy a four pack of C cells for the inside base unit which probably cost me nearly that amount. The batteries are supposed to last about 9 months but you can plug this unit in also.
I bought a 10 ft section of conduit for the mast and some nuts and screws, so I probably have an additional 45 bucks into the unit. I got an older mobile home and with a 10 ft piece of conduit and a 3-ft extension I was able to get it 3 ft above the roof. Not ideal for a location because they recommend you get it above any trees or obstructions. I'm not buying 150 ft of mast. 😁
This station seems pretty well built and it's definitely good enough for kicks and giggles when the rain falls and the wind blows. Twice during some heavy downpours the screen said "raining cats and dogs" I thought that was a nice addition.
I have no idea what it might say if the weather actually becomes dangerous.
"Duck and cover"
"Get the Hell out of Dodge"
"Your screwed"
"Hope you own a boat"

Hey, just handed in my notice for retirement for next June. 31 1/2 years at Millersville university. Nice pension. Wanted to wait till 2023 but they offered me double payout on leftover sick leave and vacation. Taxes are g to hurt on that but I can pay for my new deck with what is left.
That sounds great Tom. Just keep busy.

I did this yesterday... because heaven forbid a guy could get one straight cut

It's got to feel good to escape.
My aunt headed the HR department at San Jose
State University. When she wanted to retire, they begged her to stay and offered her a big pay increase plus 100% medical in her retirement package. Who knows what else. That was probably a dozen or more years ago. I think she's doin' ok. 😉
Happy pre-retirement.

I visited my friend yesterday, got more measurements at his house, picked up a bunch of my tools he had. He couldn't find all of them and told me he's found some more for me to grab and put in my 3 tool bags. I have a small blue & black one, a medium black & decker, and a Bauer soft-sided rolling one that looks like a carry-on sort of. Got my auger, toilet jack, ground tamper, one of my shovels, chainsaw, etc. Still missing a shovel and the guy who did his yardwork broke my rake and refused to replace it. Guy owes him more work but they got into an argument over something so the guy won't come back. I think he stole the dog house I was loaning my friend because it's gone.

Today I took my brother to vote because he couldn't find the location himself since GPS doesn't work for it as the road is mislabled in GPS and in google. On the voter portal it says it's Cherrywinche Rd. On GPS & Google it says Cherry Witchie Rd. On Google maps the street view from 2013 shows the sign saying Cherrywince Rd. The current sign says Cherrywinchie Rd. I'm trying to figure out how to submit the photo to Google Maps. I also want to submit a photo of the bare lot where an appliance store used to be to show it's not there anymore.

My brother took out trash so I'll need to do more cleanup. It overflowed and spilled a bunch while I was waiting a few days for him to take it out. I think I've got at least 2 more contractor bags of trash in the kitchen to clean up but my back can only handle so much at a time. Unfortunately, since the trash doesn't get taken our regularly (and I can't lift it myself), it starts to overflow & then I have to keep picking up trash I already picked up. He only ever takes out one trash bag.

Right now my body doesn't want to cooperate. Hips & legs are giving me grief & I'm tired. Was getting winded earlier. But I got cuddle time with my youngest kitties. I spilled bacon on my shirt so one of them was trying to eat the shirt. LOL. Then I burped up bile and bacon that came up my nose. That was not fun.

Mom thought I said the toaster was broken so she ordered a new one but I had to explain that it was the electric can opener that was broken, not the toaster.

I had trouble sleeping last night because I couldn't find my oldest cat. I was freaking out thinking he was gone like my other cat, but he finally came in at like 2am. I gave him chicken & held him all night.

I'm in scatterbrain mode at the moment.

Yesterday I remembered why I hate this house so very much. Moving forward with my hardwood at home installation, I removed the old hardwood... you know, laid over the commercial carpet, smooth edge and then ramped over some underlayment and vinyl. Yeah, that house.

Well I got to my bedroom after the removal and oh goodie, it turns out to be a half inch lower than my living room. Suppose somehow that makes sense.... still have not figured out the how it makes sense but what can you do. I bought 10 sheets of 1/2 inch to do the living room and bedroom. Well, when you need to double your sheets in the bedroom it turns out that takes more than one sheet.

I hate this house so much, it is nothing but a giant pain in the butt but someday soon, all of the floors will be the same level. I'll snap a pic of my "ADA Approved" ramped header into my bathroom later. Come to think of it, I am not entirely sure it is not too steep to be considered ADA approved. Apparently some idiot tile setter (me) did not realize that the living room hardwood was installed on 3/8 ulay and vinyl. For shame.

I had a house like that. Absolutely hated doing anything to it. The secret is to just gut it and start over. That way if anything is out of whack it’s your fault and you won’t be as miffed, you’ll just roll with it and call it character.

If i gutted it Chris, it would just fall over.
This is my "lipstick pig" as it were. Make the wife happy and carry on. I know what I am dealing with and I do not have to bother to make things perfect, just pretty good.

I don't know if this happens to any of you but I have a lot of clients say "oh, things are your house must be beautiful, you are such a perfectionist" or something of that ilk. This is when I typically find myself rolling around on the floor laughing and say back to them how things at my house are comprised of as much of my half of an ass as possible because I ain't paying me to make it any better than that :p

No one ever claims my house is pretty. LOL.
The people who built it and added on had bad taste and used cheap stuff & didn't stick to code. It needs so much work.
Yesterday other than grocery shopping and taking my brother to vote was a waste. I slept almost all day afterward. And slept all night too. I just moved my arm a little too much & my cat (who is sitting on me) made a little cooing sound. I don't even know when she climbed on me. LOL. It's chilly in my room right now so I'm her personal heater. Got a couple cats and a dog on my legs, but this one is up on my abdomen/chest since I'm reclining.

I need to get up and do some cleaning today.

Hmmmm.... this looks oddly familiar.
Looked so good when I did it the other day, after getting my hardwood installed this afternoon I just kept on going and did the stove pad. Sun just went down and with the rapidset I got about 3 hours until I can put the stove back. Wish me luck!

And if you want a good laugh... apparently you aren't meant to weld the hardwood clips to your trowel. I will say, it didn't fall off this time!

Looks a lot like work to me.
I like doing it at home. I can take my time, I get away with the things I know don't matter that silly people complain about... like popping a 18g bradnail into things every once in a while and for once, I get my house to look nice. I have made a lot of other people's houses look nice, I was starting to get jealous.

The wife n I were just pondering buying another dump to gut and fix it up just because it’s fun. Doing it for other people is definitely ‘work’.
I like it. I don't ever manage to put the amount of effort into this **** hole to make it "amazing" because as you said, I would have to take it down to the studs and in honesty working a full time gig with a wife, two school age kids and an infant... that just isnt going to happen when we are all shoehorned into this 950 sqft. That being said, I am doing what I can with what I have to work with and it is making a vast difference. Plus I can facelift this whole place and make it look like a million bucks the way it is for only about 10K and well, we aren't moving any time soon and my kids will keep wrecking the place, so really what's the point :)

Our last place with one kid and us, I took 6 months off to see our firstborn out of the gate, reno'd the house down to stud to pay for it and loved every minute of it. We sold that place to move back here which was rather a shame, but I did not want to live in Saskatoon any longer anyhow. Covered the money I spent on the reno and most of the wages I would have lost working 6 months on the sale so I counted it as a win and we had a lot of fun in the process.

Holy crap, it's still a house and it's yours and while you're at it give it a USDA stamp too. I'm not kidding make a template or stencil USDA and afraid on a few items before you cover them up. Someday it will give another person a good laugh. 👍
