Ha! I still have PTSD from all my early year bosses tearing me a new one when something I needed wasn't on my car/truck/toolbox.I had the help run to the lumber yard for them.
It was closer than going back to the shop for vct. Had I known I would have brought some. Unfortunately there was carpet here before so never got a good look at the slab.

WHAT!!!!!?????? You don't have XYZ? ANY good mechanic comes prepared for the job. Meanwhile those bungholes ran operations where they'd dispatch you with absolutely zero information on what you were up against that day.
Have you used cinderblocks before? I wouldn't think they're heavy enough. Problem with the VCT is the "kids" are not what they used to be and tend to drop/mishandle on and off the truck and then on and off the floor. So once the carton's cardboard is ripped you play the whole duct tape game. Vinyl/rubber cove base cartons are even worse and our shop always had tons of those for "sandbag" projects.
