First go here: http://www.speedtest.net/

Run three tests (while wireless) and get an average for ping down and up speeds.

Post those three numbers here.

Then go here: http://esupport.sony...3&os_group_id=6 and download wireless driver.

IMPORTANT! Read installation notes (print them if you wish).

Next go to Control Panel>Device Manager and uninstall current wireless driver.

Install fresh driver.

Go back to speed test page run three tests and post resulting numbers.

Thanks Nick. I moved the laptop into the room with the router and was unable to lock it up. I'm wondering if I should attempt repositioning my router (which is now on top of my G/F's computer tower and 2' off the ground) to a higher location (which I will need to get some longer cables) before trying this download?

Read Post # 39 . Nothing wrong with the router , or driver .

Take it off your girls computer . The link for the driver is on the site if it don't fix the problem .

Another problem could be you are to far away .

I'm going to play with my router situation and will report back. I appreciate everyone's help on this small issue that has been bugging the hell out of me for the last year. I also wonder what the computer tech (a family friend) was going to do to it when he said he could fix it, but it would take a week and a couple hundred dollars to fix?

Nothing . Just back up all your files , install Win 7 , and when you got it back home not only would you still have the same problem, but you would have to reinstall all your software . And you would have to delete all the foistware that comes on the disk.
