I know. Our CIA overthrew the democratically elected governments in Honduras and Guatemala. The dictator we set up in Guatemala executed 100,000 Mayans, the one in Honduras 80,000. We also kept a dictator in El Salvador in power who killed thousands. And then we wonder why these people leave home.
The father of one of my grandkids was a Mayan from Guatemala who suddenly disappeared. Some of his friends say he was deported home and executed.
Right, we give millions to dictators we install to stop drugs and quash so called socialism, but they pocket the money and the drug cartels and gangs still run rampant.
I'm not convinced there are high level people in our government that are corrupt as they are.

The refugee act was started in 1962. If you don't like our laws maybe you should move. It's what America was based on. I think Russia would be a great place for Trumper's to immigrate to. Barely a person of color over there.

I have a friend from Guatemala who did it legally. He has a green card. He wants to become a citizen but can't afford it. It can get expensive.

If we have a number, and I believe we do, then there ought to be a more efficient way of letting people in so they don't have to wait for 5 years once they apply.
Now that said, if there are 50 times more people applying then that needs to be dealt with. I don't mean let em all in. If we have a number, then we have a number.

The Omars, (an unrelated family that was being given asylum in the US) allowed Ilhan's father, her sister Sahra and Ilhan to use false names and apply for asylum as part of their family.

Can anyone imagine how long it takes to investigate a single claim of asylum and make a determination? Be easier to just take their word for it.
