When I first started my membership at Sam's they did not check the receipts & there was nothing in the agreement to have receipts checked. It's something they just started doing a couple years back. I don't know if it is even in the rules, but we always just renew the membership without being given any additional stuff to sign or agree to. But, it doesn't bother me.
Walmart only started doing it recently as well, but their rule is they only check the receipts for things that are not in bags. If your stuff is bagged they don't ask to see it. A few of the employees actually try to find the items on the receipt, so I keep track of where they are and show them on the receipt. I'm not going to give grief to some poor greeter getting paid minimum wage (if they even get that bc there are laws that disabled people can be paid less than minimum wage & greeters are often disabled). I've never had them get rude about it.
I have read stories of greeters who tried to physically detain people for not showing receipts though. I actually once had a greeter try to stop me from going back out the entry door to grab something from the car. She blocked my path & said I wasn't allowed to go that way (nevermind it has the same anti-theft sensors).
Walmart has cameras and security people. They actually had a lawsuit on their hands bc the cameras are only supposed to be used to check for theft & they were using it to see if employees were standing around instead of doing tasks (even if they had already completed their assigned tasks) & giving them grief.

I don't have a problem with it. If I don't steal stuff, what's the problem of them keeping honest people honest?
In addition, it my teach children about honesty, because they will ask their mother "why did the man ask you for the receipt"? Because some bad people steal things, Johnny.
....... and if you steal stuff from a store they will chop you into tiny pieces and feed you to the lions at the zoo. :D
They aren't "after us". People steal from the store and they have to do something.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with stores trying to protect their assets. I know some people feel offended by it though. Now, I can understand if someone constantly gets pulled over & has their receipt & bags looked at when they aren't stealing & they see other people not getting the same treatment. Employees do profile people.
Whenever I buy containers of any sort that aren't sealed shut by the packing, I will open them & make sure the employees see they are empty. I will turn them upside-down to dump them.

Rest of this post was meant for a different thread.

. is it normal to have so many days of rain this time of year?
I'm sure we are above the norm. Read Lake Michigan is 3 ft higher that normal. My son has a pond the is way up over its banks and into the woods around it, I don't know the total amount of rain we have had for the last month and half but it is a bunch. Its kind of like a cow pissing on a flat rock.

The ones around here got rid of the disabled greeters. Our store is small enough that they can watch me go through the checkout. One local fireman who works there part time tried to stand in front of me. I called Bentonville and he got reprimanded. If they stop you, they better hope you stole something. Walmart has been sued and lost over that before.

The nearest Samsclub to me still has elderly greeters for checking receipts & watching people walk in. There's this one lady who has the sweetest little voice. She's always very nice and says calls people "Baby" but in a sweet way. There's another older white woman who gets a bit cranky. She once stopped me from entering the store bc I was bringing a riding cart for my mother & she thought I was getting it for myself & that I was being rude (there were people lined up waiting on riding carts to be brought in & Mom was first in line). Old lady stood in front of me and scolded me about how "We don't do that! There are other people waiting on carts!" I was trying to explain to her that I was bringing one in bc my mother was waiting- another employee realized what was going on & told the lady to move out of my way. When the lady saw me pass the cart to my mother, she looked embarrassed. The other employee apologized to me on her behalf.

There used to be an elderly greeter at the local Walmart but I haven't seen him in a long time. Not sure if he passed away or just retired. I know he must have been in his 80s or 90s bc he used to work with my late friend back in the 40s. Another one of the employees I liked (who was not all that old) passed away a few months after retiring. They set out a table with his picture, a black tablecloth, some plastic black roses, & a little memorial note about him.

Can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but there was a video that went "viral" of a teenage girl (15-yrs old) who was accused of stealing a candy bar or something. Two full-grown men who claimed to be from asset protection followed her out to the parking lot & stopped her. She tried to leave so they attacked her. They were grabbing her, twisting her arms, & trying to drag her back into the store. She was screaming & crying, trying to get away while people started filming, called the cops, & told the guys to stop it. One of the guys put her in a full nelson & dropped her to the ground, scraping her knees all up. She was just sitting/halfway kneeling on the ground & not trying to go anywhere, but they wanted to bring her back into the store so they kept dragging her & hurting her. She was bleeding & terrified when they got her into the store. An older man was trying to reason with them to stop bc she was clearly a child & was asking her if she was OK. Another woman who was filming & who called the cops was telling the men they were committing a crime. Cops arrived after they dragged the girl back in & were still manhandling her. As soon as the cop walked up the girl reached up to him & called out for help. Video cut off about that point, but the cop looked pretty pissed.

Girl might have shoplifted a piece/bar of candy but those two guys committed assault of a minor, kidnapping (bc they dragged her back into the store), & unlawful detainment. They could have seriously hurt her with the chokeholds & neck grabbing. All over a piece of candy.

Out here the Walmart I go to most are putting gates of sorts to get in. They are not having anyone at the door as much since the remodel.

Why does Oregon keep voting Democrat? Oregon is about to enact a carbon tax just like California did. They are one vote shy as of yesterday.
What will happen? Well, gas taxes will be slowly rising until everyone is forced into buying an electric car. New taxes will probably start about 22 cents next year. Oregon already raised it's gas tax a couple years ago to 34 cents p/g.

House Bill 2007 aims to phase out older diesel engines by prohibiting the use of heavy-duty trucks with engines predating 2007. The bill has now been amended to apply only to Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties, but the timber industry operates in that area as well.

Geisinger and those he represents are also worried about HB 2007. Because many loggers own pre-2007 vehicles, this bill would make their fleets worthless. A new logging truck, according to Geislinger, costs around $200,000 so buying a new fleet is economically impossible for most companies.

This would impact Oregonians like Adam Lardy, 46, from Buxton, who owns pre-2007 logging trucks. Buxton is in Washington County.

“I care about a clean environment as much as the next person,” Lardy said. “But I can’t afford new trucks now, especially not all at once. I’m afraid for my neighbors and friends and the people I work with, too. We’re afraid of losing everything.”

This is trucks......... not just log trucks.
On top of that, large companies that produce a lot of carbon offsets like Al Gore does so they don't have to change their ways all that much because they can afford the hit. Small industries may have to close their doors because they can't afford to pay carbon offsets nor can they afford new equipment to replace their old equipment.
We don't vote for this stuff. Our legislators just enact this crap.

I've said it before & I'll say it again: Al Gore is a mobbed up lying hypocrite.

If they had some sort of plan to help the truck owners convert over to newer vehicles it might not be as much of a problem-- but it would likely involve government subsidies & the $ has to come from somewhere. I heard there were some sort of armed protests & a militia group supposedly threatening people but there are different stories going on about it. Some say it's bogus, others say it's a real threat. At this point, I have no idea.

I do have some problems with the local loggers sometimes-- mostly bc they drive on the roads when they are not allowed to & they keep damaging the roads, filling in ditches that are needed to direct waterflow (so they can drive their trucks over) & blocking the roads. But, for the most part the loggers are polite & friendly- they are just trying to make a living. There have also been some incidences of the logging companies setting my barn on fire during "controlled burns". Wouldn't matter too much now that the barn is pretty much destroyed by one of their dead trees they refused to cut down. I do wonder if they still come in & pay people to harvest pine trees from their yards. We had them harvest almost 20 years ago & probably have some trees they could use & it would help us to have them cleared.

The "armed right wing militia" was a dog and pony show so the Governoris and her commie cohorts could appear threatened by the Republicans on the news media. Nobody was threatening to shoot up the capitol.
The republican walkout is making the noise it ought to. Hopefully this carbon tax can be voted on by us voters instead of the Gestapo imposing their will on us.

The official Oregon GOP Twitter account was actually reporting there were militia men & threats though. That's what's weird about it. Other sources were saying there was just a peaceful protest & then others said that the footage they were claiming was of the alleged "militia" was actually footage of a previous protest. With all the deep fakes it's hard to know what is actually going on. I do agree that a vote would be the sensible thing.

In other news, a woman was charged w/ manslaughter for having a miscarriage after another woman shot her in the stomach. Charges against the shooter were dropped but they are pursuing a case against the victim of the shooting https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/...-child-charges-against-shooter-dismissed.html

Marshae Jones was 5 months pregnant. She got into a confrontation with another woman over the father of her baby. The fight ended up with the other woman shooting Jones in the stomach. She lost the baby. Now Alabama is charging Jones. As a pregnant woman, the state says, she should not have gotten into that argument.

Reparation for descendants of slaves. Reparations for gays who were not allowed to marry, causing their tax bracket to potentially be higher. Free medical. Free college tuition. Payback all previous college loans. Where the hell is this money coming from? The world has gone absolutely crazy.

Rusty, I think we had the same thought about that woman & the stretch to accuse her of manslaughter. It's absolutely asinine. I'm pretty damn sure she wouldn't have gotten into an argument if she thought the other woman was going to shoot her. Reminds me of the time a guy got into a car accident late at night, a good Samaritan was crossing the road to check on him & got hit & killed by a drunk driver. The DA decided to charge the first guy with manslaughter saying the Samaritan wouldn't have been in the road had it not been for the accident. Meanwhile, the drunk driver (who was not being charged with manslaughter & who got a reduced sentence for testifying against the guy) was caught DWI again while on probation-- w/ her kid in the car no less. I think she got busted TWICE afterward. She clearly did not learn her lesson.

Havasu, I keep asking "Where is the money coming from?" when they propose these things. I do think we should work on something for medical-- but reducing the price gouging should happen first. So many of these people say "I have a plan! I"m going to do xyz?" and it's like "With what resources?"

Swallwell keeps saying his solution to gun control is to completely ban assault weapons and then buy them all back. First of all, with what money? And second, what about people who won't voluntarily sell them back? He can't answer that & it's a very serious question. If they ban the weapons & try to take them away, only the outlaws will have them.

Hell in a hand basket rings a bell.

Sounds like a sanctuary city problem that gets repeated way to often.

I like the idea of free medical care, but making it happen is very complex and a slap in the face when told of the reality obout the actual costs involved and like you said........ how to pay for it.
Bernie says everything is supposed to be free. Who pays for "free"? I'd chance a large bet that 25% of the population get's more "free stuff" than I earn annually. Free is a lot easier to promise than to make happen.
