Repaired my 6'5 HP Sears shop vac motor for the second time in .......12 years? As the brushes wear, the fine woven copper brush wire hangs up on the brush housing and prevents the brush from contacting the armature. I re-bent the wires and it's good to go again. The brushes are getting pretty short, so I need to order new ones. I think about $7 each.
Recently the motor has been speeding up and down when under load and having a burnt plastic sorta smell.
I use and abuse this vac a lot especially so when restricting the flow. It looks like it will last forever. (tho visually ugly) There's no side to side or end play at all in the armature, so the bearings/ bushings are tight .....made really well. The switch is original. Good day knowing I don't need to buy a new one.
I also put some new gas in my $5 pressure washer and ran it for 10 minutes because I never added any Stabil to the fuel tank last time it was started back in September or October. So it still runs like a top and has fresh fuel.

I wonder what happens when you use a pressure washer in -10 degree weather. :D Snow? Probably wouldn't get much snow accumulation before getting shot by a neighbor. :D

Hey Jon, we just booked 10 nights in Paris for October. We have 3 days in Paris, then 7 days on a Viking Longboat, where we will hit many big WWII sights, such as Normandy, where D Day occurred, a tour of Monet Gardens, lots of castles, etc.

You only live once!

Shop vacs are getting to be cheap, why not just replace it? I think the last one I bought was like $39 at home cheapo.

6 1/2 hp Craftsman is closer to $130. A cheap $39 vac won't suck up paper towels. Mine doubles as a seamerdown and the flow restriction from using it in this manner can last for 15 minutes straight. A cheap under powered one would burn up doing one long seam. If my shop vac breaks down, I might as well stay home. I can't live without it.
The only thing wrong with mine is the brushes.... besides, I'm trying to impress Ernesto by doing my part to save the planet by purchasing carbon inserts. :D

Hav that is a good trip
Have you checked the water levels for October?
Too much water and the boats can't get under the road bridges
No water then the boats can't float. If water levels are wrong your cruise turns into a coach trip between locks
We did this trip with APT Tours a few years ago but can't remember when. Flew into Prague for a couple of days then APT Tours bussed us down to Budapest for the boat leaving at night which was really good then to Amsterdam then bussed to Paris for four days. It was a bit cool when we did the cruise but seeing all those castles etc was neat
We did not take the free flights from New Zealand and back as that is when there is a water level problem
Whats free is a trap for people who do not to their homework first? :)
Viking is very good from what I hear

I hope you have fun on the trip when it comes around.

Trip to my sister's was not very eventful. There was a detour and stop-and-go traffic for about 20 hours (covering the distance that should have taken 20 min) somewhere near Dallas. My sister did most of the driving this time. I was too exhausted & kept having eye fatigue. I didn't get carsick. I just napped most of the time. I'm so glad we got the 12v heated travel blanket bc it kept my feet and legs warm. My mother made use of the neck pillow I got for her and was happy with it. We're sharing a bed at my sister's house and keep waking each other up bc there's not much space and if one of us moves it wakes the other.

Thus far the food has been good. Will probably be heading back in the next couple of days bc my brother hasn't been feeding the sick cat her wet food (claims he can't find it) and I want to make sure she's ok. Also, I think we're driving my brother-in-law a bit crazy.
