Brother wouldn't make soup. :-(

I ended up going to bed instead.

Took the truck in to get oil + filter change and new brake pads. I provided the filter, oil, and brakes so it was $77 for labor & tax. Not too bad though. I took it through the car wash for an undercarriage spray first.

77 bucks doesn't sound bad at all.
if you stop making soup for your brother how long would it take for him to figure it out by himself?

Right eye is recovering well after a week. No miracle though. Its the lazy eye so it won’t get better than 20/50, same correction as glasses or contacts. Left eye will be better. It can go to 20/20. Doctor showed me what a non toric lens would look like. He put a lens in front of my eye that removed the astigmatism correction and everything turned to a blurry mess! So the extra $2400 looks like it was worth it.

Highup, my brother is the one who usually makes the soup and stew. He knows how to use the pressure cooker stuff better than I do. But I asked him to cook for me bc I felt sick and he didn't want to. I was too tired to get myself something so I went to bed.

Tom, sorry about your "lazy" eye. Glad it's recovering a bit though.

Today was futile. Brakes were squealing & Truck was showing error with ABS system. Took it in to get it looked at & they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Said wheels spin just fine. Front brakes were making noise but now they stopped. Only rear passenger one is making noise now. Will have the dealership look at it when I take it in for the other maintenance.

At least I got the post office box thing settled, but the rest of the day was a waste. Picked up my friend, got pvc and cpvc glue, picked up extra pex pinch rings, got out to the house and was getting all the stuff organized while my friend was clearing weeds to get under the house. He then tells me he hears a weird buzzing sound. I came over and thought it sounded like some sort of flying insect. Couldn't figure out what it was. I went back to the truck to find something and I hear him yell "NOPE!" and he came running back over to me.
The buzzing sound was this unhappy critter.

It was trying to have a nap and wanted to be left alone. I got a machete and friend tried to pull it out with a long shovel but the handle broke so it escaped under the house.
Will need to figure out how to get rid of it before it breeds.

I'm wondering on your brakes if they have to reset the computer because you just installed some new brake pads...... Electronics on cars today scares the crap out of me. If you install a new battery on some cars, the computer needs to be reset so that it knows that you have a new battery.
I don't recall which manufacturer. Anyhow the electronics are so sophisticated your battery is charged according to its age and it's charging needs. If your 5-year battery gets replaced, the computer is charging it as if it was a five-year-old battery. They do this in the interest of fuel savings .........we gotta save the environment.
Anyway in that case, your battery is now new, so you need to take it to a dealer so he can reprogram the computer to say the battery is new. Then it will charge the battery as if it was a new battery instead of a 5-year-old battery. Why do things have to be so complicated?

Okay, there are reasons for squealing brakes. If he put the brand new brakes on, against old shiny rotor discs instead of resurfacing them or scuffing them up with a belt sander or something, that could possibly cause the squealing.
If they didn't use an anti-squeal silicone paste on the underside or back side of the brake pads then that could also cause squealing.
You don't just pull off the old pads and put on new pads and call it done.

....... Either that or some brands of brake pads squeal more than others. you'd have to do an internet search to find out the difference between one manufacturer and another as far as squealing goes.

Total cost $16. Got me a really nice Vaughan ball pean hammer, guessing 24 oz at least.
They also had two sets of engineering divider sets. One set made in Germany. Tower Germany just stamped on each piece. These are the ones in the green velvet material.
I'm looking for information on the end pieces for these dividers and a few of the accessories that have the same clamping device on one side. These are engineering dividers. Maybe on one side these clampy things held a quill pen?
......no they aren't that old.
Some have a "clampy" thingamajig on one side. I cannot understand what that clampy thing would do. most dividers have two steel pins or a steel pin and a place for a pencil lead.
If you have any ideas let me know. there are also two other pieces that have this "clampy thing"
Anyway these are not something I absolutely had to have but who could pass up things that are shiny? ....really.
These two sets of engineering dividers. One ha has some additional parts, such as replacement pins, lead, and even a replacement knurled nut, just in case you lose one of the adjustment stops.
I checked on eBay and they're not worth a fortune, but if you had to buy something locally and probably cost you 9 bucks and be a total plastic piece of s***. Ask me how I know the plastic ones are a piece of s***
These are really, really nice. I'm sure it would cost a bunch of bucks to purchase something of this quality brand new.

The "clampy thing" is just designed to transfer measurements if I am not mistaken that are too small to represent on the compass itself, I could be wrong but I do believe this is their function.

I’ve been helping a friend clear out junk from parents house before auction co. Comes in. He was a tool maker and has those dividers and lots more !!! They will probably take / auction the good stuff but after that maybe I’ll be a used tool broker ? ......if you’re in the market for something old and interesting let me know, it might be hiding in a tool box

The brakes I got are advertised as "quiet". I think Wagner brand. I've been told old brakes need to be cleaned and greased before new pads are put on. I forgot to ask them if they greased them. I didn't notice the squealing when I drove today, but I wasn't paying attention.

Went to the post office to get mail and grab some food from a local place in town.

If he has a pair of Starrett dial calipers, dial indicators, magnetic bases, or micrometers that would be cool. Especially if they want 10 bucks a piece for them.

The only thing that would get greased is the wheel bearings which isn't all that uncommon to do since you have the wheels off anyway. You pretty much hose down the brake rotors with Brakclean before installing the pads. You don't want the tiniest amount of grease getting embedded in your new pads. You want the services to be spotlessly clean.
I don't know about all disc brake pads, but there is a disc brake paste that is usually smeared on the back side of the pads to reduce vibration. It usually comes with the brake pads.
I wouldn't have a clue if some manufacturers build in an anti-squeel material to the back side of the pads.
I'm only familiar with my old Chevys. I have no clue if there is anything different on a vehicle with anti-lock brakes.

I need to learn more about brakes (and car parts in general). My dad could work on the older cars but it wasn't something he ever taught us about. He did teach me about building stuff somewhat though. I wish I had learned more from our elderly friend who did carpentry as a hobby. He was self-taught and built all sorts of stuff in his workshop. He made a porch swing that is currently on my friend's porch. I have an oak desk he made in the front room. He made little banks, toys, paper towel holders, chairs, and all sorts of stuff. A friend who owned a furniture store used to bring broken furniture to him and he'd fix it. He hated particle board and mdf stuff. LOL.

Yesterday a snake expert came out to look for the snake. No luck finding it though. He said that it is unlikely to bite anyone unless it feels it has no choice. It's first instinct will be to flee and that it will warn us if we get too close so we will know to leave it alone. But he said it's best to err on the side of caution. If I see it again I will call him. He told me the snake didn't look big enough to go after cats or dogs and it will bite if it wants to eat them, but in general, will likely leave if it feels too uncomfortable with animals around. One of my cats liked the guy and followed him everywhere. Tried to get in his truck when he was leaving. He handed her to me and said his wife already got a cat and he can only handle one. LOL. He said if I see the snake again to leave it alone and call him so he can try to get there in time to catch it.

Today I'm taking it easy and resting.

It does depend on the snake and what sort of mood it's in. There are some (like cottonmouths) who will stand their ground and bite. Mating season and when they are shedding are the worst times to get near them. For some reason they are irritable when they are shedding. Their vision and senses are impaired during that time and they get extra jumpy & sensitive.

Ended up going to the post office and grocery store-- brother needed to pick up Rx-- and then was too tired to do cleaning that I'd planned. Hoping I'll have the energy for it tomorrow.

I'm trying to wake up enough to do some more cleaning. Kidney stone is bugging me and I can't find my naproxyn. Not sure where it went but I've put in for a refill. Will have to go get that tomorrow (if mom doesn't want me to go to the post office today). She ordered me some better coveralls for crawling under the house. But I'm going to look in to snake traps.

No more taking a mower elsewhere. They told me there was a bunch of stuff wrong with my old mower. I checked it all, only thing wrong is it needs a drive belt. In fact, they put a front tire on it for me and left off a washer, and now it rubs. I will fix it and give it to my grandson. He is cutting several yards with a push mower.
